Blood clot from rectum *TMI*

I did my back a week ago. Was prescribed diazepam and co codamol. I finished the diazepam on Thursday and different Doctor prescribed Naproxen and Omeprezole and strongly suggested taking a laxative as hadn't had a bowel movement since Monday. I took a generic brand of laxative - just one tablet. Thursday night woke up with stomach ache, went to the bathroom and threw up. Went really light headed, tried to get back to bed but passed out on bedroom floor. Husband got me in to bed. Blood pressure was low ( 82/53) and heart rate 46 so figured that was the cause. Threw up twice more then eventually had a very solid bowel movement followed by several episodes of very loose movements. However I then had 3 episodes where I thought I was pooing diarrhoea but turned out it was blood. It was quite dark. This morning I've woken with stomach ache, thought I needed to poo but when I wiped my bottom there was just a dark red, almost black clot, maybe 2cm diameter?

I have blood tests booked for tomorrow due to the Doctor wanting to check underlying causes for passing out but the bleeding didn't start till after surgery closed. Do you think I should try and speak to someone today or just wait til tomorrow? I'm not passing blood unless I try to poo. I did the NHS111 on line and that said phone 999 immediately which seems over kill. My husband has taken the kids out as I'm too sore to sit for long and I didn't want to spoil Fathers Day.

Any advice?

That needs urgent attention. Please go to A&E

emmathedilemma · 20/06/2021 10:54

I would go to A&E as advised by NHS111 but given your recent history of fainting don't drive yourself there!

Soontobe60 · 20/06/2021 10:54

If you’re seeing the doctor tomorrow I would wait. If it’s not bright red it’s not fresh bleeding. Apart from that, how do you feel in yourself?
If you’re really worried, then phoning 111 won’t do any harm. Please try not to worry yourself x

Nicolanomore24 · 20/06/2021 10:54

I think you should go to hospital. It’s probably just a side effect of the pain killers etc but safer to get it checked.

SilverGlassHare · 20/06/2021 10:57

Go to A&E. You could have a perforated bowel. My mother turned out to have a perforation and her symptoms were passing blood and stomach pain.

HumpHumpWhale · 20/06/2021 10:58

Why are you on here asking us to tell you it's OK not to follow actual medical advice?
And shame on the poster saying it's fine, and to leave it. You have no idea what you're talking about.
We can't advise you, NHS 111 already have, if you die before your husband and kids get home because your hemorrhaging, how are they going to feel? Maybe you'll get to a&e and it'll turn out you're fine, but maybe it won't, and is that a risk worth taking?

RampantIvy · 20/06/2021 11:04

My husband has taken the kids out as I'm too sore to sit for long and I didn't want to spoil Fathers Day

Please contact him and ask him to come home and take you to hospital. His father's day will be more spoiled if her knew you were really unwell and were at home when you should be receiving medical attention.

And for heaven's sake please ignore the frankly dangerous advice from Soontobe60. Blood that is not fresh blood is more concerning.

Mabelface · 20/06/2021 11:20

Please go to a&e. Old blood isn't good and you need seeing today.

EbbandTheWanderingHearts · 20/06/2021 11:39

Thank you. I don't feel unwell in myself as such so was doubting what option to take. I'll go and get checked out.

Call ambulance or go to a&e. They need to take some blood from you to make sure the levels are ok. The low blood pressure episode is concerning. Please seek medical attention urgently - even if you feel fine currently - it is not an over-reaction, it is the sensible course of action to get a full medical assessment. If your husband is unable to take you, do not be afraid to call ambulance.

tigger1001 · 20/06/2021 12:10

You have had medical advise, please take it and go get checked out.

TinaYouFatLard · 20/06/2021 12:20

I had similar symptoms recently OP. You must go to A&E. my haemoglobin had dropped from 130 to 55. I was close to collapse and needed an urgent blood transfusion.

Go now.

AbsolutelyPatsy · 20/06/2021 12:26

i dont like the sound of your BP
how come you have a machine?
is this something you keep a check on normally?

Blooter · 20/06/2021 16:11

Did you go to A&E?

TinaYouFatLard · 20/06/2021 20:26

I really hope OP hasn’t returned because she is getting medical help.

Vallmo47 · 20/06/2021 20:31

Are you okay OP??

Bagelsandbrie · 20/06/2021 20:42

That sounds worrying. Definitely a and e.

EbbandTheWanderingHearts · 20/06/2021 21:59

Got checked. Doctor wasn't concerned. Thought it was to do with the constipation. Will see my own GP tomorrow and already have blood test arranged. No more blood since so hopefully they were correct. Thank you for your support.

I'm really glad to hear that! I was worrying - and feeling guilty about being so harsh yesterday!

Anxiousmummy1187 · 08/01/2023 13:29

How did you get on with this?
