My dad has just called to tell me my Dm has ovarian cancer large cysts on both ovaries. I'm presuming it's not a good prognosis? Hysterectomy at Christies and then what?

Hey

My mum had Ovarian Cancer, stage 3, in one ovary.
She had a full hysterectomy then chemo started about a month later.

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 18/06/2021 16:35

How /when do they ascertain what stage it is?
How's your mum?Flowers

Hysterectomy and then chemo/radiation. There are also some drugs that can be used for ovarian cancer. It depends how far it has spread. But don’t lose hope, people can live years with this if caught in reasonable time. I’m sorry, a cancer diagnosis is such a shock

She's 75 and has had breast cancer twice, I'm not hopeful tbh.

I had ovarian cancer in one ovary with a large cyst. It was grade 1 stage 1. Had an op to remove ovary, cyst and fallopian tube. No further treatment needed. Since then I've been perfectly healthy and had 3 kids.

I really recommend you give Macmillan a call. A Macmillan nurse will be able to talk you through your mum's situation. I spoke to them when my mum had cancer and they were fantastic.

Wish your mum well xx

My mum died 7 yrs later though she was given a few weeks at diagnosis so did amazingly well.
If she had breast cancer previously and now ovarian cancer she will probably need genetic testing for your sake too. I've had to have my ovaries out for prevention.

This is the main support charity

www.ovacome.org.uk

and you might find it helpful to get in touch.

(As an aside, I was once at a running event, and saw one of their fundraisers running in an ovary/fallopian tube costume. Good on them, and they'd got a good runner inside it who overtook me very early on!)
