Dd2 has a cold

I'm feeling as dd2 in never ill, always running around and being happy.

She has a realy cheasty cough wjich she has had for 4-5 days, she's not eating and only sipping water.

She looks so

Should i take her to the GP or leeve it for a few more days? The cough does sound looser but shes still very unhappy.

I would take her, if she is not eating and really not seeming well with it!

Take her. Our drs say they're always happy to see a small child - best to be safe than sorry cos they can go down-hill so quickly.

I decided not to take her as a) she ate some lunch and b) i could'nt get there.

Anyway she seemed a bit better this afternoon, now her cheast sounds realy rough, i have just got her back to sleep, taken her temp and its 39.9

Hello again! She sounds like she might have a chest infection and need some antibiotics? I do think they're best avoided if poss though! What colour is the stuff coming out of her nose? If green it's antibiotics and if clear then it's viral and you just have to sit and wait. It can turn in to baterial (according to my GP when I was there with DD for exactly the same thing!) and he said to just keep the doses of calpol up to ensure a fever free couple of nights and pop back if worsens or for a check every 3 days or so.

mazmack · 21/11/2007 21:42

I have read many times that if a fever hits 40C you should call a doctor...that seems to be the magic number...

You know her best and are in the best position to tell whether it's just a normal cold or whether some secondary infection has set in. Follow your instincts; if you're worried and things don't seem right, take her.

Our surgery has a minor illness clinic with the practise nurse that I have used for things like this with DS (16 months). Easier to get appt than with GP, and they can refer if they need to.

The stuff comming out of her nose is green.

She had a better night but still has a temp of 38.2 so i am taking her to see the GP.

Thankyou all for your advice, you are right that if i am worried than i should take her. I am always worried about taking her as quite offten the doctor will just say ' keep going with the calpol and see how she is in 3 days'. Our GP is a 20 min drive away which is also a pain.

She seems a bit brighter but looks so pale

Hi Marne - how is she now? Did you go to the Drs?

Marne · 24/11/2007 19:45

Doctor has given her anti-biotics

She has a cheast infection but is doing well (better than she was).

We still have buckets of snot but temp is down

Oh that's great news that she's all sorted. Antibiotics are great things when they're needed. Don't forget to give her lots of live yoghurt to help line her tummy and get the friendly bacteria back up again!
