DS2 (11 MONTHS)has got a pale patch on the roof of his mouth. It's kind of hard to explain but its like he has been upside-down and some kind of pale liquid has been poured into his mouth which has pooled in the roof of his mouth and gone hard (crazy explaination I know LOL).Shown it to my SIL who is a nurse and has had a gazillion 4 kids and she says she's never seen anything like it. Def not thrush and not bothering his as such unless you try and touch it but that could just be an objection to Mummy sticking he fingers in his mouth LOL! Any ideas?

No suggestions other than to ask your health visitor or GP.

But I would suggest that you stop him smoking and drinking alcohol anyway as he will be very unpopular at baby group otherwise. All the others will want to do it too.

Could it be a type of thrush? Maybe an overgrown yeast infection?

Haribosmum · 21/11/2007 07:42

LOL Buda yeah it's really socially unacceptable! I don't think it's thrush but will take im to the doctors in the morning (I'm in NZ) to get it checked out.

UPDATE ; Just got home from the doctors and he's got a kind of cleft palate. He's being referred to a ENT specialist and they will probably have to operate....I kind of wish it was thrush now!

Oh, sorry to hear this. I hope that everything goes well with the ENT doc.

Thank goodness you went to the doctors and he was able to give you a diagnosis, even if it was an upsetting one.

lomond · 21/11/2007 21:06

That's a shame, hope it can be sorted without causing him too much distress.

Oh dear. Poor him and poor you. Keep us posted.

My niece, who's now 25, had a cleft palate diagnosed late. She had a successful repair and now the only signs of it are that she does not have a uvula (the dangly thing at the back of your throat) and when she gets drunk and laughs, beer may come out of her nose.

She says they repaired it with a skin graft just to cover the small hole and that she needed another graft when she reached her teens as the hole in the bone grew with her, but the skin graft didn't keep pace. I think she had that done at Whangarei, but it may have been an overnight trip to Auckland.

At least cleft palate surgery has come on in leaps and bounds over the last few years. Fingers crossed that they can easily sort it out for him.
