Combing for nits...how do you spot them in all the foam that comes off with the conditioner?

We've had the 'nit' letter home this week. I've combed through dd's hair but found it hard to examine the comb properly because of all the suds that came off because of the conditioner I'd put in her hair. Am I being a bit stupid or is there a 'tehchnique'? Thanks

maybe a bit less conditioner. then wipe comb on some loo roll it absorbs some of foam. loads and loads of loo roll. oh its grim have fun!

LucyLasticBand · 20/11/2007 21:43

i bash the comb into a sink full of water, or try combing with ordinar comb first to get some conditioner off, thus making it easier and less painful

jenny459 · 20/11/2007 21:44

Loo roll eh? Is that the key?! She hasn't been itching or complaining so I'm hopeful she's ok. I might do another comb through tomorrow. Aaaah, the glamour of motherhood.

Pint glass of water. Rinse comb between each section. Look in bottom of glass at the end.

TBH I have always seen the big ones anyway

Also have you got a Nitty Gritty comb it is 100x better than any other product on the market.

SlightlyMadScreachingSirens · 20/11/2007 21:44

No NO NO Pint glass of water. It is hte easiest way to detect

southeastastra · 20/11/2007 21:46

coat the hair in conditioner.

comb through and wipe the comb after every sweep on kitchen paper. keep doing it.

repeat every week.

jenny459 · 20/11/2007 21:49

Right, I'm going to do the pint glass followed by quick wipe on kitchen or loo roll. Think I'll have convered all possibilities then Thanks.

Oh and yes I have the dog's wotsits comb. Scary pharmicist in boots told me it was the best.

use t tree oil and peppermint oil in a jug of hand hot water and keep dipping in between combs. the oils prevent lice and you can see if you have any when they float in the water.
or you can wipe the comb with conditioner on an old towel or dip the comb in a sink of water.
If you child isn't scratching you are most likely ok.

SlightlyMadScreachingSirens · 20/11/2007 21:51

In that case you will deffo need the water to detect. The lice are imposssible to see on the Nitty Gritty. I used to use a bug buster for detect and a Nitty Gritty for treatment.

Now I have my water.

Just make sure bottom is clear so you can see through from the bottom.

SlightlyMadScreachingSirens · 20/11/2007 21:52

kidsrus...my lice & eggs sink in water

southeastastra · 20/11/2007 21:57
