More eye problems ...

Ok, so I have this non-draining eye.

Today I went to see the opthalmologist, who stuck a probe in my eye (with little to no warning). Apparently the duct is entirely blocked, and I can either do nothing (and cope with crying continually on one side of my face) or have an operation, under GA. And I get to choose between them trying from inside my nose (no scar, lower success rate) or from the outside (small scar, higher success rate).

I'm quite shocked and upset about it all, tbh ...

Have you seen the scar on my neck, it is enormous ??

No, I bet you didn't even notice it the last time we met.

Go for the scar option.

I would give you one of my very rare hugs but you would probably kill me.

Ah feck it......................

LGJ legs it.....

I would go for the small scar option too.

Don't blame you for being upset. I would be too.

I will have the scar, I'm pretty sure. It won't be that bad, I know.

I'm more opposed to the operation, than the scar, I think.

I'm mostly just really upset. I feel like, once again, my body is letting me down. Two CSes, diagnosed with asthma at 35, and now this. It's really trivial, I know, it's not big, it's not cancer, it's not important. But it still fucks me off.

(Weirdly, though, a) I'm fitter than I've ever been, although I have a cold right now and sound like Janice Joplin and b) I haven't gone to see the physio since I was pg with DS2, so that's been three years with no structural issues. So I'm not being fairly huffy and pissed off. FWIW.)

Oh, and the probe thing was really unpleasant. I am Not Good with needles, and it was very Clockwork Orange, and ... gah.

Thanks for the hug, LGJ, I know the scar will be fine, really. I am sick of crying continually on one side of my face, like some sort of fake Batman villain!

My mum has had the scar option done on both sides (years of hay fever caused her tear ducts to scar shut), and apart from not being able to wear her glasses for a week it went really well, and worked perfectly. Much better than the bit when they tried to reopen them with probes etc.

NotQuiteCockney · 21/11/2007 11:44

Gah. I was convinced, this morning, that my eye had fixed itself (maybe the probe dislodged something?) but it doesn't seem to be the case. Oh, this is all too sucky.

I'll call my SIL soon and discuss it with her. I should take advantage of having a surgeon in the family ...

Sorry to hear you need an op.

I had this done under a local a few weeks ago. I wouldn't recommend a local as the local anaesthetic needle was agony.

But, I have no scar and there was no pain after the op

NotQuiteCockney · 21/11/2007 12:53

They have to cut into the skin between my eye and nose. General is mandatory, I'm told. Did you post on my thread before, with a growth that you got cauterised? They can't see this growth, it's down near my nose, it seems ...

OP posts:
isthisright · 21/11/2007 15:42

Yep, is me!

I had the growth pulled out and then the wound was cauterised to stop the bleeding.

Yours must be lower down than mine then. It took four years for mine to grow enough to be able to see it!! Don't know how far it went down near my nose, to be honest I don't want to think about it

isthisright · 21/11/2007 15:43

Sorry, I name changed to post a different thread and forgot to change back. It was me on your previous one.

NotQuiteCockney · 21/11/2007 16:24

They don't seem to think mine is a growth per se. Well, the registrar didn't seem interested in discussing what it might be, or what had caused it, just what we could do about it.

EmmaJW1976 · 21/11/2007 20:17

I'm sure they must see these things a lot and they'll just get on with it to sort it out. Mine was a proper growth, he pulled quite a big piece of flesh out, urgh!

But when my DS1 had watery eyes as a baby, they were just going to 'probe' it?

NotQuiteCockney · 22/11/2007 08:10

Well, the probing (which is what they did to me) often sorts things out, it seems. I keep hoping that it did it for me, but it doesn't look like it has.
