Abnormal in what way? Too much or too little? They can have very different causes.

bizzey · 08/06/2021 21:25

Ahh ..too much

There are lots of things that can cause raised calcium and the result needs to be interpreted in the context of the rest of her results/ any examination findings and symptoms. The person who ordered the test is probably the best person to ask rather than getting a scatter gun selection of suggestions here. Hope it all turns out well.

I had raised blood calcium. It was due to a (non cancerous) growth on one of my parathyroids.

Due to her age she may not be offered surgery if that’s the problem.

The doctor should be repeating the blood test with PTH and vitamin D from the same blood draw to get an accurate diagnosis.

Lots of information and people going through the same thing.

I hope she’s ok, lots of nasty symptoms with it

Thank you for your replies .
Numbness in feet ..
Swelling in ankles..
Shuffling walking..
Are the main issues .

But thanks again...

Yes Bizzey, could be primary hyperPARAthyroidism and that is the most likely cause of hypercalcaemia in an outpatient setting.

@Tinkling...thank you so much for your reply .
I have an appointment to speak to her doctor next week and if that is mentioned at least i have a better understanding of it now ...and know what questions to ask .

I will let you know the outcome !
