Rash on buttocks

DD1 (aged 4) has a rash on her buttocks, but nowhere else on her body. It first appeared about 10 days ago, raised red spots/pimples clustered across her buttocks. It gradually faded after a few days, but tonight it is back, with quite angry-looking red blotches across the top of her buttocks. It isn't itchy. She also has a cough.

Has anyone had anything similar? Any ideas what could be causing it?

My dd1 (nearly 4) has also had a rash on her buttocks recently, and I think it was eczema-ish...but am not sure. It comes and goes. She's had endless coughs and colds but I dont' think they're related

My dd gets this regularly- always excema related when the temperature changes from cold to hot or vice versa. It usually clears up on its own, I try not to use the steroid cream unless she really needs it.

It's worth stopping using fabric conditioner though whilst it's bad- it seems to aggravate it each time they sit and squirm!

hmmm maybe it could be eczema then - but I thought that eczema was usually itchy? I think I'll take her to the doctor. Interesting tip about the fabric conditioner, thanks.

My DS (4) has had little spots on his buttocks for just over a year now. They come and go, he normally has onyl one or two at a time. google "Molluscum contagiosum" and see if they are the same. You can google 'images' for piccies (some pics are quite alarming!). Buttocks are apparantly a very common place for children to get them. They normally catch them from sharing towels, or pick them up from close contact in swimming pools etc.

If so, they are harmless and children grow out of them, not much you can do.

Obviously you should check with GP if this is what your DD has. Hope that helps.
