Thrush disappeared after stopping coffee

This is a weird one. I have had what I thought was severe recurrent thrush since my last pregnancy over 7 years ago. I tried potions, ointments etc but nothing worked. It seemed to flare up around my period, and would look like typical thrush for a couple of days (along with itch) but then turn yellow/green and finally stop for a couple of weeks but return again every month. Seven whole years of this, and no help from GP who kept saying “it’s just thrush”.
Anyhow, I recently gave up coffee for no reason other than I felt addicted to it. I went from 4 or 5 cups a day to none, though now drink tea. I have not had the thrush symptoms since that day, and it has been 4 months! I’m drinking tea, so still ingesting caffeine, but if caffeine wasn’t the cause what on Earth was it? Intolerance to coffee? Coffee playing havoc with my hormones?Has anyone else experienced this? I can’t believe something as simple as ditching coffee has cured it and I keep expecting it to come back, but so far nothing! Anyone else with recurrent thrush please try giving up coffee! I feel like I have my life back!

Were you using artificial sweeteners in your coffee? Caffeine can trigger thrush, and even though you're still drinking tea, coffee has a lot more caffeine than tea does.

Watching with interest. As I'm a coffee addict, and get thrush (I think) for a few days after every period.
Having googled a bit, it seems the candida overgrowth diet does recommend cutting down on or quitting caffeinated coffee.

No absolutely nothing like that.

This is good to know thanks. I also get a few days of intense itchiness that I wouldn't say is full blown thrush, but incredibly annoying.…I drink a shit ton of coffee!

Glad you have found a solution!! Coffee has WAY more caffeine than tea does, so maybe the coffee was just too much caffeine for you?

I went to the doctor's with terrible aching pains in my legs. She had no idea what was causing it, but gave me painkillers.

Obviously I Googled considerably and found someone who said that it could be caffeine withdrawal symptoms. I had recently given up caffeine, so I started drinking a couple of cups a day and the pains went away!

Caffeine has far more effects on the body than you think.

Omg! My theory is right then ! I was a heavy coffee drinker for years but only have it at work. I always get thrush before my period and a mad itch … started shielding from work in February so haven’t had coffee since and no thrush or itch either !!! I’m back at work now and contemplating whether I should stay off the coffee …
