Eye sight since pregnancy

DS is 17 months. When I was pregnant I noticed my eyesight got worse (I am shortsighted). Also my night vision virtually disappeared. Since DS was born my eyesight is still worse in one eye and although my night vision is better it still takes a while to adjust. I have (at last) booked an opticians appointment for next week but now I'm actually getting nervous that there is actually something really wrong . I'm particularly worried because I suffer from an auto-immune condition which can affect your eyes so I'm worried it's that and by ignoring it for so long the damage might be done. Has anyone had similar?

No, but sounds like you are doing the right thing by dealing with the problem. Hopefully it will be something treatable.

good luck.

your vision can be affected when pregnant, IIRC, due to extra fluid in the body, but this sounds like something a little more, especially if DS is 17 months

best thing to do , is what you are doing, get it checked out and go from there

hope everything is ok

Weegle - do you have Graves disease?

PrettyCandles · 19/11/2007 13:38

Could it be fatigue? I have very poor eyesight, and it always seems worse to me - particularly night vision - in the first year or two after having a baby. I've had a checkup in each pregnancy, but never actually had anything wrong. So I suspect that it my well be fatigue-related.

Nonetheless, definitely important to have a proper checkup. Hope it's alright.

Thank you for your replies. No, not Graves disease. It's called Ankylosing Spondylitis (yes a mouthful) - it's a form of inflammatory arthritis which can affect organs as well as joints but as of yet it's only affected my joints but I have been suffering with a sustained flare-up since DS was born, hence I'm concerned that the vision problem is related. I suffer with fatigue with the AS so maybe it's that? It's definitely worse at some times than others.
