a week and a half ago i went to doctor with probs with periods and hormonal probs. she did a blood test `9which came back clear afaik) and also felt my abdomen which she said felt very lumpy so she was sending me for an ultrasound. she said it would prob be about 10-12 weeks before i got an appt.
today the hospital phoned me to say wasnt i lucky that i have skipped the queue and am to be seen on thursday. so now i am a bit bothered about why the need for the sudden rush?! what can they possibly be thinking it is thats so urgent? dr mentioned fibroids to me but also mentioned in the same breath lasering and hysterectomy . since i went about my prob i have been getting some pain so am pleased that i wont have to wait to find out but also scared

They probably have a cancellation. Don't worry. Good luck.

Maybe it's because it's something that needs treating quickly - thinking like appendicitis - you know, fairly run of the mill (albeit painful) condition but you'd want it treated before you got to burst appendix stage.

I was going to say, i'm sure its a cancellation. Telling you not to worry, wont stop you worrying, I know, but there are also certain things which do just fit into the criteria of being assessed early. Perhaps, your referral and what your GP wrote may have just put you into that. i.e. fiboroids are lumps and can feel lumpy on palaption, however, any kind of lumps and bumps need checking out straight away. You have other symptoms which must point her towards thinking its fibroids, so thats smething to focus on, rather than letting your mind run away with other possibilities

good luck on thursday, let us know if you like, how it goes.

My mum used to be a receptionist at the outpatients clinic. They sometimes had a cancellation and would offer the appointment to someone else.

I hope this is the case, but if you are really worried, phone and ask the receptionist. Tell her that you are a bit concerned about the fact that you are to be seen so soon.

This happeneed to my dad, when he had a suspect mole on his neck. When he was seen within days,we feared the worse, but it was a cancellation. It turned out to be an age related wart.

Good luck for Thursday.

I just had an ultrasound scan under similar circumstances. I had a temp phone me up and she didn't tell me it was a cancellation because she'd just been given a list of phone numbers and been told 'fill these slots quick'. Apparently they are quite quite at this time of year and the GPs don't realise.

thank you ladies, am feeling more calm now. hope you are all right about the cancellation. will let you know how i get on. x

I would think if you had been slotted in because you were an emergency case the doctor initially wouldn't have told you 10-12 weeks. I'm guessing a cancellation too ! Hope it goes well.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 20/11/2007 08:34

I would say it is a cancellation appointment.

Good luck for Thursday.
