Keep making myself sick. Why? How did I get here? Not after eating but sometimes in the evening. Is it more usual than I'm aware of? Anyone else?

I'm not sure why you're wondering how common it is. Surely it's more important to find out why you're doing it - and how to stop?

shivawn · 02/06/2021 22:51

Why do you do it OP? Do you feel better after it? Do you have issues with your weight? Whatever the reason its really bad for you and can cause all kinds of problems with your GI system and your teeth.

PurpleDaisies · 02/06/2021 22:53

Have you spoken to your gp? This sounds like you need some support.

TedHastingsweeDonkey · 02/06/2021 23:08

Sorry OP, I really don't think it's usual, no. It is however indicative of something not being quite right. Do you want to share more? Please ring your GP first thing though before you become physically unwell.

needjhelp · 02/06/2021 23:15

What would ringing gp do?
Ok I'm not great at coping strategies but yeah feels somewhat better.

You need help. Medical or psychological. Your gp is your first port of call.

Cocomarine · 02/06/2021 23:25

Definite one for your GP to begin with.
You need to be aware of the damage that repeated vomiting will do to your teeth -the acid from your stomach. You shouldn’t, for example, brush your teeth straight after vomiting as you rub the acid into them. It’s better to delay teeth brushing and swill your mouth out with an alkaline like baking powder. I don’t say this to encourage you to vomit of course, but professional isn’t just about stopping immediately (can be unrealistic) it’s also about managing your issue the lowest risk way whilst you work on stopping.

It doesn’t really matter how common it is - it’s not a good thing to be doing. It’s damaging to your body and it’s not resolving the problem that is compelling you to do it.

I used to do it on purpose because I felt so bloody nauseous all the time, it was, somewhat ironically, the only way I could eat.

If it isn't something like this then I would gently suggest therapy or counselling. In any case a visit to the GP id a good idea. Next step is to visit the dentist, my back teeth were fucked from frequent vomiting.

FusionChefGeoff · 02/06/2021 23:43

It's a form of self harm so needs professional help so first step is GP

Hi all, and thanks for the reports. We've moved this one out of AIBU and into the General health section.
