Colonoscopy 2 2ww booked?!

Avearage · 02/06/2021 20:27

So I'm 37 had a colonoscopy due to change of bowel habits and a positive fit test and some pain.

Dr doing the colonoscopy was sure he would find inflammatory bowel so after going through drinking the laxative that taste like cif and salt cold I go feel humiliated squeezed into those blue shorts with an open back !! He has a look good bowel prep ...thank goodness! But says found a polyp but I'm really sorry its too big to do here there could be a good blood supply I can do it but need to be at a bigger hospital so will rebook incase you start to bleed.. so I've been booked in later this week under another 2ww will be seen in 9 days ......now I'm not a big worrier and seeing it on screen was interesting but he took I can only describe as Greyscale images and then just apologised he couldn't do it.
So I know they will remove it but now wonder If he thinks it could be worse....I mean he's been doing it for 18 years so I'm sure he has an eye!
Do people normally get told on the day if they think its sinister?
How long do biopsies take to get a analysis?

I'm not panicked by it but I am a extremely impatient person 🤣

I work in this area and yes, you're normally told if they think it's something sinister

I recently had a flexi sig and they found polyps and they told me they looked benign and when the histology came back they were indeed benign. They see polyps all the time and they know what they're looking at so try not to worry

I have had several colonoscopies because of inflammatory bowel disease. Several polyps have been removed. They were all fine. The pathology took several weeks.

It is routine to remove all polyps. I'M sorry you have to have another procedure. What a drag. Try not to worry.

Thankyou, just very frustrating having to perform another really poor attempt at the bellagio fountains to have it done !
I did ask but he just said we will take it out and send it off.....I'm glad I can have it removed but hard to believe that would be causing so many issues body's are crazy things!!
Don't like the idea of waiting ages I like to play detective with these things !!

And, even if it is something bad, it is much better gone. My Mum had a polyp that had a small little bit of cancer in the tip. All gone once removed.

I have to have another colonoscopy but it is not urgent and my gastroenterologist said it is ok to wait until I have had my second Covid shot etc. It is for regular cancer screening because of my IBD increasing the risk.

The prep is the worst, as you know.

Try not to panic. Many polyps are benign. If a cancer is obvious, it is usually acknowledged at the time. Many polyps (including some larger ones) are benign. They need removing and sending for histology. It's usual to have follow up colonoscopies to see if any more polyps appear. Do tell them if you have a family history of bowel cancer as this can influence how often (and for how long) your follow up will be.

I had a colonoscopy eight weeks ago and was told on the day that it looked like cancer, was confirmed a week later.

In my experience they would gently warn the patient if they think it is a cancer. Also If they are pretty sure it is a cancer the endoscopic would usually take a biopsy rather than trying to remove the entire polyp (unless it was tiny), so in a way it is a good thing that you are being rebooked. Very to refer patients with tricky polyps to specific doctors with the expertise to remove them.

Sorry you have to go through it all again @Avearage but it's best to get that polyp out.
DH had a polyp cut out years ago but then it got dropped and 'lost' so couldn't be tested (assuming it was very small).

He has regular colonoscopies to screen for bowel cancer.
When one of these showed that he did have cancer we were told just after the procedure. He did have to wait for further scans to see if it had spread.
Fortunately he is doing well now.

@Angbunnyboo sorry to hear of your recent diagnosis. Hoping that your treatment is under way 💐
I found Bowel Cancer UK good for specific information.
