Ct and Mri on same day every 6 weeks WHY?

This is what my friend is currently going through yet she tells me there's nothing wrong.

Why would they repeat this for the last year. Shes definitely hiding something but what? I want to help and support her.

She's telling you what she wants you to know op. Supporting and helping her means respecting her boundaries. Yes clearly something is going on but it will only be conjecture on here. Just keepi doing what you're comfortable doing - checking in on her on those days etc until she's ready to talk

ButchersPleasure · 01/06/2021 20:23

Thank you. I keep trying to talk to her but she quickly changes subject.

It would be very unusual to have a CT scan every 6 weeks due to the radiation doseage. I also can’t think of why we’d do MRI and CT on the same day - we’d order an MRI after a CT scan for a couple of reasons, but not both on the same day.

Do you think she’s telling porkies? I don’t claim to know every specialty and I’m not a radiologist, but can’t think of any reason why you’d have both on one day, nor why you’d have them so frequently. Even our patients at high risk of relapse would only have scans at most every 3 months.

@DazzlePaintedBattlePants
She is very capable of telling porkies. I have questioned a few times about having them done on the same day but she gets annoyed.
I don't know how to handle the situation without sounding either uncaring or too soft and she's making a fool of me.
Thanks for your reply.

She must be seriously ill for them to do it every 6 weeks as that’s a lot of radiation. Not a surprise your concerned. I had an mri 5 weeks ago and I’ve got another in 2 weeks and even then the department didn’t want to do it . I’d think it was lies but that’s me.

Criticalfoxhat · 01/06/2021 21:27

Seconding what dazzle said...I'm part of radiology management in a large hospital and we wouldn't give someone a CT every six weeks, it's dangerous due to the radiation levels. I'd be very sceptical of what she's telling you.

Soontobe60 · 01/06/2021 21:28

Bearing in mind what the NHS has, and still is, going through over the past year plus, if she were having these procedures every 6 weeks, she must be either very very ill, or making it up.

Moondust001 · 01/06/2021 21:29

I'd also struggle to find a credible reason for this, but setting that aside...

You have asked if she wants to share anything. She has said no. So truth or not, take her at her word - don't discuss it, show no interest in it when / if she raises it. If it turns out that there is some truth to this, if she wants help she knows to ask you. If there isn't, then my best guess would be that she'll up the ante and embellish - at which point it will become clearer.

I’ve had an MRI & a CT scan on the same day but it was a one off...

It’s normal to have them on the same day. Mine always are the same day. Having them every 6 weeks isn’t normal
FrumpyBetty · 01/06/2021 21:58

I once had a CT and an MRI on the same day but like the PP it was a one off. I've had an MRI every 6 months since then.

I can't think of any reason your friend would be having so many.

LemonRoses · 01/06/2021 22:06

It’s porkies.
