My DS has just thrown up everywhere again, just 2 weeks after last stomach bug. There is vomit all over his carpet, and I just want to cry!

I can't believe he has another tummy bug already.
Just two weeks back he woke up & vomited from the top bunk downwards, covering his rug & half his bedroom.
He was poorly for a good few days, but recovered & has been fine for all of 13 days, and tonight we have a repeat of the experience, only this time missing the mat & just totally covering the carpet.
He has gone back to sleep now, but I really don't know where to start with cleaning up the carpet. I am not good with sick at the best of times, but at least I can normally scoop up whatever it has landed on, rinse it & bung it in the wash, but this time the full load is all over his carpet.

My new man was unfortunate enough to be visiting me on both vomit occassions!

Really don't know where to begin with cleaning the carpet, and want to cry!

OK, it's not at all pleasant. Poor you, and poor little man.

Sainsbury's (and no doubt other supermarkets), usually have franchise outlets by the tills. For £15.00 you can hire a carpet cleaner for a day.

For £7.00 you can hire it for half a day (which is all you'll need).

Their carpet shampoo costs a further £15.00, but it's massive. If you can afford it, it will last you many vomits . If you can't afford it, just use whatever you've got (carpet cleaning wise) in the cupboard, providing it's not washing-up-liquid.

My ds had a vomiting bug about three months ago. Like you, it went all over the carpet, and the smell would not go away.

So, I hired the carpet cleaner, and the smell (and a considerable amount of muck), has finally gone.

I don't know if you drive or not. If you don't, you can arrange delivery.

Pinkchampagne · 19/11/2007 00:18

Wouldn't have thought of hiring a carpet cleaner, but that may not be a bad idea, as this is the second time the carpet has been attacked with vomit in just a couple of weeks.
I didn't think he would catch another tummy upset so quickly. It must be quite unusual to catch two so close together.

The smell is unbearable, but I just can't deal with the mess on the carpet yet...I really don't know where to start.

Poor thing! It's probably not unusual to catch them so close together. He was already weakened by the first attack, so the second is almost inevitable.

But trust me on the carpet cleaner, and do it tomorrow or the next day if you can. Nothing gets rid of the smell of vomit from a carpet. Nothing you can buy in a bottle.

You need THE TERMINATOR, the steaming, rattling, hissing entity that is the CARPET CLEANER!!!

And sad though this sounds, it's very relaxing, once you get in your stride

Desiderata · 19/11/2007 00:29

Do you have kitchen towel in the house?

Lay it on the vomit for now. Don't even think about cleaning it up. You'll only scrub it in even more.

Pinkchampagne · 19/11/2007 00:39

I have kitchen towel, and will lay some over the vomit now. Thank you, Desiderata.

You're welcome, Pinky.

I hope tomorrow brings a better day.

mymatemarmite · 19/11/2007 08:03

Oh dear PC!

Hope DS had the rest of the night a bit more peaceful!!!!

I have a carpet cleaner if you want to borrow it.

Good luck, oh and by the way bicarbonate of soda is very good at absorbing the smell.

Pinkchampagne · 19/11/2007 08:10

Oh I think I may have to take you up on your offer of borrowing your carpet cleaner, bubble, thanks.

DS has not (fingers crossed) been sick since, and he is still sleeping atm.

Going to go up with a bucket of soapy water later & make a start on scrubbing up what I can, but haven't got any bicarbonate of soda.

MMM - what I would do for some of Mr F's special powder right now!

Pinkchampagne · 19/11/2007 08:13

The special powder is stuff the caretaker uses at school to sprinkle over sick. It takes away the smell, absorbs it, then you can just sweep up/hoover up the powder.
Unfortunately it isn't available to buy in shops!

It is strange that DS2 didn't catch the last bug, but DS1 is on bug number 2 in as many weeks.

Pinkchampagne · 19/11/2007 09:44

I've cleaned it up with several paper towels, hot soapy water & then carpet mousse, but the room still smells.

DS is now asking for breakfast, but I'm not sure this is a good idea.

Oh I feel your pain, ds has done this before and it is awful! I was extremely tempted to laminate the entire house! Hope he feels better soon.

pigsinmud · 19/11/2007 10:25

Poor you... and your ds! I know there's a weird bug round here at the moment (Surrey). Child throws up and then a few days later seems better .... throws up again etc.... It seems to lie in wait and when everything seems hunkydory it appears again.

Just waiting for us to catch it

Pinkchampagne · 19/11/2007 11:02

Oh really, schilke? I know there are lots of tummy bugs about, but didn't realise there was one which rears its ugly head again just as you think all is calm!
DS did mention that he has been feeling a bit sick for a few days.

KaySamuels - it is awful isn't it? Would have been easier if it had been liquid sick, but it so wasn't!

DS seems a little brighter now, and has eaten some dry sugar puffs, so I am hoping he may be on the mend.
You can bet your life that the second he is, DS2 will start with it though!
The joys of parenting!

He has not been sick anymore today, and was asking for food, which I guess is a good sign.

Much as it was an awful job, I am quite impressed with myself for cleaning that sick from the carpet!

Both boys are now with their dad, so I hope DS isn't sick again tonight. His dad doesn't cope at all well with anything like that!

mymatemarmite · 19/11/2007 16:21

Oh poor you PC! Is DH having them over night?

mymatemarmite · 19/11/2007 16:22

Oh and by the way, lots of TAs away today and a few DC sick too!

Pinkchampagne · 19/11/2007 16:27

Yes he is, MMM. How many TAs off? Have they all got stomach bugs?
Really can't believe DS1 has been ill again with this, just 2 weeks after the last time!

Oh I sympathise, in the last month I have had my 4 year old vomit all over our sofa, and my 3 year old vomit all over the sofa and me.
I am always torn between maternal comforting instincts, and a desire to barf myself at these intervals.
When 3 year old vomited on me, I had my clothes off in seconds and was off like a flash to the shower My dh was with him before you all think I am a cow
