She had a little sniffle at 7pm when I put her to bed, but it seems to have got terrible all of a sudden. She is sleeping but snorting, snoring and whining in her sleep. I have picked her up a couple of times and normally she would wake up if I do this, but she just snuggles into me and continues to sleep. She also usually feeds at 11 pm and even though she did wake a tiny bit she took one suck, choken a bit then went back to sleep and won't wake up. I don't think she's unconcious as she's whining. She has a normal temperature.

I can see why you are concerned, but I am sure she is just sleeping off the cold. How old is she?

BBBee · 17/11/2007 23:28

so she is much more drowsy than you would expect? I would call NHS direct.

paolosgirl · 17/11/2007 23:30

Echo BBBee - phone NHS Direct to be on the safe side. Does she seem like she's struggling to breathe?

Sushipaws · 17/11/2007 23:30

She's 7 and a half months.

My dh thinks we shouldn't call NHS as she will open her eyes and wake up for a few seconds.

Don't know what to do?

Any suggestions for clearing her nose, am using Karvol at the moment.

you have to go with your gut feeling. If you are really worried, call them.

(A nurse friend told me that soon after DS1 was born and he was ill and no one would listen to me. I pestered the docs until they did listen as my gut feeling was that something was wrong. )

So, if you are worried, dont hesitate to call NHS Direct 0845 4647

Flibbertyjibbet · 17/11/2007 23:37

Ignore your DH and call NHS direct. Just to be on the safe side, as she can't tell you herself how ill she is but they will be able to advise whether she needs medical help. And if she does need help I would bash dp over the head on my way to the docs/hospital.

paolosgirl · 17/11/2007 23:40

Go for it - they'll be able to reassure you, and that's what they are there for after all

CharlesandEddie · 17/11/2007 23:41

i would go with dp..

if her temp is normal and she is breathing fine just leave her to sleep it off
try not to worry and if neessary ring doc tomorrow if still concerned
i have been hounded on mumsnet before for this advice but i have nursed half a dozen babies through countless ills and they are good at sleeping these things off

morocco · 17/11/2007 23:46

go with your instincts of course but perhaps instead of phoning nhs direct you could start the night with her in bed with you to keep a closer eye on her and then phone if she seems to be having more trouble

Sushipaws · 17/11/2007 23:51

Ok, so she woke up, had a coughing fit and now won't go back to sleep.

I'm feeling a bit daft for thinking the worst.

She is spraying snot all over the plave but is smiling so I guess she just has a nasty cold that developed quickly.

Still looking for suggestions to clear the snot as she won't feed.

oh glad things seem bit brighter Sushi. You can get some saline drops from the chemist to put up her nose before you feed (clears the snot down the throat, sounds horrid but it does work)

report back tomorrow hey?

Sushipaws · 17/11/2007 23:55

Mmmmm yummy paperchain,

if she is hungry enough she will feed and her breathing will surtchup the snot !! yeuch! have never held much store by saline drops - just keep her room cool and air not too dry - nothing much else you can do . i know they can sound awful - but a ose of paracetamol or brufen should take away any aches and pains and the cold will run its course
good luck hope she sleeps well

CharlesandEddie · 18/11/2007 00:00

sorry 'snurtch' up the snot (tmi but you know what i mean)
