Can Teething cause a delay?

My baby is 8 months old and has been teething for months, he still has no teeth, but can see he is in discomfort alot and constantly has his fist rubbing against his gum.
(I can see the teeth in his gums...just seem to be taking forever to come through)
But since he has been teething he has been so grouchy, whiney, can get upset very quickly.
But also doesn't seem as sociable as he used to be...he doesn't really use much eye contact with us.

I do have other concerns about him too, he doesn't respond to his name yet, sometimes his eye contact is that poor he will almost look over us and the other way when we are holding him or he is sat on our lap or we are playing with him on his play mat.

He will look when lying down or if I go into him in the mornings.
He does laugh and smile, but not as much as he used to....you have to really act silly to make me smile.

He is trying to crawl at the moment, but he brings his legs up and pushes with one arm and the other hand is in his mouth so he is almost leaning on his head 🤦🏼‍♀️.

I have read things and Google just say autism whenever I search what it could be.

But could it just be he is suffering with his teeth and it is making him alot less sociable and happy?

Teeth can take a long time to come through, have you tried Calpol and teething gel, rings that have been kept in the fridge?

Babies are very easily distracted, if he's looking at you at other times and smiling then I think that's reassuring.

When babies are in pain they are less sociable because they are irritable from being sore. And a lot of babies his age aren't beginning to crawl so I wouldn't worry about that.

But if you're worried, speak to your health visitor.

We have a check with the Health visitor soon.
But I can't help but worry. He has now gone off his food too...which could be down to his teeth.

But the other things he does, make me question is it just a delay due to teething and being irritable and in pain or is it something else.
He also flaps his arms when he gets excited which everyone comments "aww his dancing" but I know he is not.
I worry it could be 'stimming' as it is named on Google....which is a red flag for Autism.
He also makes a O with his mouth when he does it.
And those with the lack of eye contact and not knowing his name...I feel like it could be something else 🥺

Try Calpol and if there is a significant change in his mood then there could be something bothering him.

Hi OP, I was wondering how your little one is now? My baby is doing similar things to yours

@Needtimeandspace

My 8 month old is doing exactly as the OP sod too. How old is your baby?

Do you have any sort of update @Babymama08 🤞🏻
