Does this verruca look infected?? **Pic Warning!**

I've had this verruca for over 2 years and started treating it 3 weeks ago with stuff from Holland & Barratt. Since last Thursday the skin around it has swollen like this and turned yellow and the pain it is causing is unbearable! I can't even put a shoe on as the pressure is too much and I'm having to take painkillers!

It looks more like the verucca is reacting to the treatment, or your immune system is reacting to it.

In any case, my advice is to check with the GP. Being this big, it may require minor surgery for removal.

Have you been putting the treatment stuff (what actually are you using?) on the surrounding healthy skin too? That's usually what causes what you describe.

Have you got too much acid on surrounding tissue ? I think the treatment is working but it looks as though it may have gone too far beyond the margins of the actual verruca .

idontlikealdi · 19/05/2021 11:38

What are you using on it? Looks more like a reaction to that rather than an infected verruca.

Bastard things. My GP dismissed my kids' ones, they don't deal with them anymore apparently.

Is that a blister or just soggy skin from the treatment you're applying.
If it is a blister and you can drain it by popping it from above and below with a clean needle or similar, soak.it in warm salt water, dry it, cover with a sterile dressing, wait and see. The relief will be instant. Hopefully the verruca will be seen off by your immune system after this. There are no signs of infection/inflammation in the photo

Thanks for responding!

I've been using something called Wart Away - it says it has monochloroacetic acid in it? It's like 1 application a week. The 1st two weeks done nothing but the 3rd application clearly has!

I was trying really hard not to get any on the healthy skin - was using Vaseline but perhaps you are right and it has went onto the skin surrounding the area.

I've got a GP calling me back this afternoon.

If it's the product causing this pain do you think the pain will ease off if I don't use it again? I go away with the family next week and at this point I can't think of anything worse as I can't even put a shoe on Sad

I'm honestly not sure if it's a blister! It's not soggy - it feels rock solid to touch
