Am getting worried about this as he has 4-5 poos a day, every day. They are very soft (not diarrea though) and the right colour (I think) but it seems excessive to me

I give him veg every day but have tried to cut back on his fruit intake as I am worried nothing is staying in...

At his 10 month check up the nurse said it was OK but I´m not so sure - can anyone advise....

Ds2 sometimes does this. I find that if I give him lots of grapes in the morning snd babanas in the afternoon he poos 2-3 times a day, Maybe you need to tweak when you give him what.

BTW veg can be just as throughputting as fruit - tomatoes, for example.

Thanks Pretty.

Trouble is I don´t know what else to give him that doesn´t involve some sort of veg for example even if I just give him sweet potato or avocado he´s just the same...

DD (11 mths) used to poo 4-5 times a day - at the moment it's 2-3. Like you I was also worried it was a bit excessive and have been told that it's perfectly ok.

Bananas are supposed to be good for slowing things down a bit.

bebespain · 16/11/2007 14:11

Hey thanks welliboot I´ll give those a whirl. Bananas are something I never give DS as he didn´t like them when very young and I haven´t bothered since.

It always helps to find you´re not the only one

ds was like this, 5 nearly every day, all consistency of peanut butter soup. I put it down to him being a very slow teether.

Is he on anything that he might be intolerent to? Might be worth keeping a note of what he's eating and seeing if anything makes it better or worse.

My ds is a bit older, but his poos went the way you describe around 14 months after a nasty diarrhoea bug left him with a dairy intolerence. They carried on like this until a couple of months ago when I cut out dairy all together and now they are back to normal.

I'm not trying to worry you, he probably doesn't have an intolerence, but it is worth keeping in mind.

Try to remember that they do have very small intestines compared to us, which aren't fully efficient yet either! So they can't hold as much stool inside for as long as adults and so will need to empty them more often. They also do not produce as much enzymes in response to solids or take the water out as thoroughly, resulting in err.. softness

As long as he is growing and thriving, that seems fine, and I promise it does slow down!!
