Injured, potentially broken nose.

So in one of those stupid split second moments yesterday I got pulled over by my dog (not her fault she was on lead and an off lead dog came up and went for her and she ran off), anyway landed straight on my face. Nose, lip and chin cut, bled from inside nose as well. My teeth felt numb for ages and my nose is bruised and swollen as well as potentially a bit wonky. I think the swelling is making it look wonky.

Apart from feeling a bit fuzzy all day probably from the shock I'm fine.
I decided to ring go on Monday to refer to ent as they can't do anything straight away anyway and it might just be swelling.
Hurts a lot and sort of throbs.
I haven't worn my glasses as the oh so wise internet instructs and feeling a wave of nausea come over me when I think about putting a mask on.
The biggest problem is I don't know what to do about work, I have to wear a mask for work and I don't think there is anyway I can put a mask on. Other than that there is obviously no reason I can't go to work (except I look like I've been fighting).

Anyone had a broken/bruised nose, how long does it take to heal and the swelling go down?
Also on a side note it's amazing how many people just walk past you and say morning in a cheery British way when you have blood all over your face.

A+E I'd say, the GP won't be able to help and A+E can gauge if x-ray is needed.

Or go via 111 if you prefer.

You should really have gone to A&E yesterday, you could have had concussion. How do your teeth feel now? You should consider ringing the dentist on Monday to get them checked as you could have loosened or fractured them (you won’t be able to tell).
Definitely see GP on Monday.

Teeth feel absolutely fine now, I decided against a&e as nhs website says they can't do anything till swelling goes down and you need ent referral which I guess gp can do. I don't have black eyes this morning which I think is a good sign. I can't tell if nose is wonky or just looks it due to swelling/cut on one side.

I would go to minor injuries now but I don't think I can put a mask on, just the thought of it gives me a wave of nausea.

Ouch, that sounds painful! I think you should go and get checked out and try and brave the mask.

I broke my nose as a teenager and we left getting it looked at. I ended up having to have multiple operations and have permanently lost my sense of smell!

Also, it sounds like you may have concussion so definitely worth getting that checked too - that’s probably what’s causing the nauseous feeling.

numb teeth = possible jaw (maxilla) fracture.

you need to see a dentist. but a dentist would ask you if the injuries have been assessed by a dr first.

for work, if you can't wear your usual protective equipment can you ask if you can do something else until you are better?

Lotsachocolateplease · 16/05/2021 08:18

Could you wear a scarf but pulled up over your face? Or get to A&E/minor injuries and ask for a visor?

nausea can also be a reaction to pain.
is it better with pain relief?
