Blood results normal, still unwell. Where do I go from here?

Any doctors out there that can help me.

Since my jab on 29th April I've been feeling weak and fatigued. I seem to be hungry all the time also. Drinking lots of water.

Sometimes throughout the day I feel shaky as if I am having a diabetic hypo. When I eat something it eases. Constantly feeling fatigued and weak and very pale. Sometimes out if breathe.
Spoke to doctor and had blood tests for diabetes, thyroid and low iron levels.

I bought a diabetes home testing kit and my glucose levels are Sometimes high and sometimes low. Higher/lower than a normal.

Just rang my doctors surgery for results and receptionist said results are normal. Ive made another doctors appointment as I am still feeling unwell.
I really don't understand how bloods have come back as normal when I feeling like this and blood glucose home testing is showing high and low levels.

When I went for blood test it was in the morning and I hadn't eaten anything. Doc didn't advise whether I should fast or not.

I am 45 and female and over weight.

Any suggestions on what I should say to doctor? Do I ask for more tests?
I don't want to be fobbed off as clearly something is wrong with me.

It's normal for blood sugar to change over the day, before and after meals.

But if you're still getting symptoms, yes, it's right to go back.

Thehawki · 12/05/2021 16:46

Yes I would go back and ask why you have this much thirst and hunger and fatigue. Have you done a stool sample yet? They need to be testing for everything including worms/parasites.

flossletsfloss · 12/05/2021 16:47

I agree it completely depends when you are testing. But you definitely need to push for more investigations. Sorry you are feeling so bad.

When I had gestational diabetes I had to check my sugar levels when I woke up, then 1 hour after eating breakfast to see if my body had dealt with the sugar properly (then 1hr after eating lunch and 1hr after eating dinner). Could you do this? I was told to look for less than 7.8 but obviously a normal non-diabetic level is less than this. You could then show this result to your gp if it’s high every time, But to be honest the gp blood test should be accurate and so you probably aren’t diabetic.

When i was diagnosed with high cholesterol I was tired every day. Did they check your cholesterol? Don’t forget too that at 45 you could be perimenopausal which can cause symptoms of tiredness amongst lots of other things.

Definitely go back to the gp for further help. It could be anaemia, it could be lots of things. Good luck.

Thanks for your answer. He didn't check for high cholesterol. I was thinking I might be perimenopausal.

All your symptoms were what I experienced, getting worse over months when I started the perimenopause. I then also found out that I wasn’t absorbing vitamin b12, so the two togetherness were a recipe for disaster.

B12 is not normally tested in a routine blood test.

Another way forward might be to try eating low carb. The biggest benefit for me is how , after a week or so, my body can burn fat for energy and my blood sugars are absolutely stable.

You would be very welcome over on the latest boot camp thread, we are on week 4 at the moment, anyone can join anytime

Read the thread and the spreadsheet which explains how low carb high fat works. It's been a revelation to me.

Just wanted to say I'm still unwell from my first vaccine also. Awaiting second blood test results. Thyroid abnormal but I pushed to have another test and not wait 3 mrhs as drs suggested. I'm also frustrated no one in the medical world is looking into this. Also trying to actually see a dr is impossible. I get txt messages....feel tired breathless and generally rubbish.

Nikki360 · 05/06/2021 22:14

I'm 45 and feel exhausted and just not right. I have had upper abdominal pain since last September had bloods stool test and ultrasound all fine. Prescribed omeprazole It went for a while last couple of weeks back again. Doctor did more bloods last week. I've read recently that digestive problems can be perimenapausal symptoms as well as fatigue. I think that it affects a lot of things.

LockdownCheeseToastie · 05/06/2021 22:19

How high and low are the readings? Was it hba1c that the gp tested?

randomkey123 · 05/06/2021 22:20

I'd say it's your reaction to the vaccine OP.

I've just posted on another thread about how awful I'm feeling 3 weeks on. I'm also T2 diabetic and my blood sugars are horrendously out of control, in spite of my usual diet and medication. I'm exhausted, tearful, have horrendous headaches and joint pain. I wish I'd never had the effing thing.

If your GP is anything like mine, they'll fob you off saying it's all a coincidence.........

PurplePumpkinDream · 06/06/2021 09:26

Your GP should have done a full blood test, not just glucose cholesterol and iron. Are you sure they didn’t as that’s the standard blood test I get as I’m on medication. They even do further blood tests if the standard is normal and you are still having symptoms. Just get back in touch with the GP and explain.
