Painful, aching joints but blood tests all OK. Any suggestions?

For years I've put my aching joints down to just general ageing, menopause etc but it's getting worse so I went to the GP who did blood tests. Results came back all within normal ranges, including my inflammatory markers.

Does anyone know what the tests would have ruled out and what wouldn't have shown up in the tests?
eg. I'd wondered about rheumatoid arthritis but I think I'm right in saying my inflammation markers would have been raised if it were this? Would osteoarthritis also have raised markers?

A vitamin D deficiency. GP’s don’t routinely check it any longer.

You could try getting a nutritional panel of blood trsts done (look at Medichecks). I know that vitamin and mineral deficiencies can cause muscle and joint pain. I take magnesium supplements in part to help with my aching legs. It makes a big difference

Did your blood tests include calcium levels. My sister in law sadly died from hyperparathyroidism, because the GP didn't include calcium levels in her blood tests. She had many blood tests and was written off as depressed and obese. Her symptoms included aches and pains in her joints.

If you take statins, that can cause achey joints.

I take Calcium and Vit D supplements due to osteopenia so unlikely to be a deficiency and I'm not on any other medications.

Hyperparathyroidism causes an increased calcium level. It's the excess calcium that killed my SIL.

My blood results were all normal but I was diagnosed with RA after an ultrasound scan of my hands. I had no raised inflammatory markers and no rheumatoid factor evident. Hope you find the answer!

I'm so sorry you lost your sister in law TiltTopTable.

I'd never heard of hyperparathyroidism until now. I'll check whether my calcium levels were checked when they did my bloods
