Brain stem stroke

Hi everyone

I had a brain stem stroke in January this year. Didn't realise that I had actually had a stroke for 2 days. Then couldn't swallow. Not even saliva. Ambulance called. Spent 2 weeks on stroke ward, PEG inserted for food etc.

5 months on and I can now eat normally but that is the only improvement. Still have frozen face and left side of my body is still very touch sensitive.

Has anyone else had this happen to them?
How long before you felt like your old self?

Thanks.

Gosh OP, that sounds like a lot to go through 💐 for you, sorry I’ve not got any experience of this, but hope my reply bumps it for you. Wishing you all the luck and hope you recover quickly 🌸🌸

Potter5…. I’ve searched for info on brain stem strokes & came across your post. My partner suffered 2 brain stem strokes in Dec 2021 caused by an artery dissection. He still has the facial paralysis, hearing loss & no ability to close or blink his left eye!! His mobility is improving & he needs to remember to include his left arm/hand. Thankfully he survived!!
Just wondering how your recovery has progressed since your last post?

Hi Florence 19.
I am still the same, good and bad days.
the stroke fatigue has improved though.
I tried going back to work but not possible due to stroke symptoms so have decided to retire at 59.
On a bad day my balance is dodgy, and my vision in left eye is blurry. On a good day I can almost feel okay apart from the frozen face!

There is a brilliant group of people who offer support.
the Group is called 'Different Strokes'
You can find them on Facebook too.
Please have a look at their website, they are all stroke sufferers like your husband and myself. I hope that your husband improves, it's a slow process but we are still here. Take care.xx
