Has anyone had an infection in their ear canal & did their head explode?

Because anything that will end this pain atm would be considered.

I seem to have spent a lot of time on 'health' recently & I accept that I am a bit run down.

But the Doctor gave me drops on Tuesday am & I have taken 2 full days worth; despite this I was up twice in the night to take painkillers.

Is it supposed to last this long; when will the drops start working; is there any chance my head will explode or my ear will fall off?

Please reassure me

TIA
KMc

I am on prescription pain killers - heavy duty ones, thank goodness

Are you taking ibuprofen as well KM?

Katymac · 15/11/2007 13:57

Can't take ibuprofen as I have tummy problems

I found that taking both helped. Is there no other painkiller that you can take as well as the co-codamol?

Katymac · 15/11/2007 14:01

The co-codamol isn't too bad - it is the stronger one and if I take 1 every 2 hours it is much better than 2 every 4 hrs

I think the co-codamol has paracetamol in so that's all I can take

Yes it does have paracetamol in it - i just wondered if there was another alternative. I'm glad the co-codamol are working ok

Hi katymac, I had earache a few months ago ago and the pain was dreadful, almost on a par with labour Are you deaf too? Has it been bleeding? I would go back to doc. I had antibiotics as well as painkillers (co-codamol) and was deaf for weeks afterwards. So much sympathy, it is a horrible horrible pain.

Katymac · 15/11/2007 14:05

It kind of numbs the pain - it's still there but I can deal with it

Which is so much better than paracetamol

The co-codamol is actually for my sciatica but I didn't think they'd mind if I took it for this

I want to close tomorrow - but I closed last week because of the (potential) floods so I can't this week too

You have my sympathy too Katymac - i had a really painful infection about 2years ago-i had to come home from work because it hurt so much, wnet to docs and they gave me the drops you're on ,and anti-inflammitory tabs to reduce swelling.mine was ok in about 10 days.Make sure you cover your ears when you're outside-wear a hat or hood or put your scarf around your ears-cold wind won't help it at all!! I like the hot water bottle idea too-thats a good one.Hope its better soon hun x

3 full days of ear drops & I'm no better

I guess, one more day then back to the out of hours clinic

How's the ear today katymac?

Katymac · 16/11/2007 16:55

Well I have had half the number of painkillers - so it must be getting better

I can move my head & I ate at lunch time (only mash & gravy so now chewing - but I did eat)

I think I might be getting over it [hope emoticon]

Fingers crossed
