Sounds like sciatica

GreenFlamingo11 · 07/05/2021 19:41

Sounds like sciatica or pirifomis syndrome to me. I had something similar a few years back and it was agony so I sympathise! I'd recommend getting it checked out with a physio though, most GPs don't have a clue beyond the basics.

Sciatica.
An osteopath or chiropractor will help you.
The nhs approach to back pain is hopeless.

IggyAce · 07/05/2021 19:42

Could be sciatica, you could speak to a pharmacist and see if you can get some stronger over the counter pain killers and some anti inflammatories might help.
I’ve suffered with it in the past, keeping mobile really helped me.

endofthelinefinally · 07/05/2021 19:44

Ice pack or heat pack, ibuprofen and a fooded duvet or foam pad on top of your mattress will help in the meantime. There are specific exercises for sciatica that a physio or osteopath or chiropractor can teach you.

Thank you. I'll speak to a pharmacist, I can't take ibuprofen so maybe they can suggest something else.

I'd phone GP again. It sounds like sciatica and you need stronger painkillers.

A decent osteopath could probably sort it out.

Cocolapew · 07/05/2021 20:05

If you Google there are some stretches you can do, they really helped my DH Smile

hippidyhiphip · 07/05/2021 20:25

Sciatica. There's a great stretch.
Sit on the floor with one leg straight out in front of you.
Get your other leg and place your foot on the thigh of the leg that is straight.

I have this too OP but it's getting better slowly. I do these exercises lying down in bed as recommended by my physiotherapist:

  1. draw knees upright so they're pointing towards the ceiling - roll knees to left and right
  2. draw knees upright and then curl them towards chest (I can't do this one fully at the moment)
  3. lie on tummy and lean on elbows (also a work in progress As I can't roll over yet) Soluble Cocodamol has been great although of course being careful not to overdose or get addicted. Also Pain relief gel has helped with instant relief. Don't give up hope.

Thank you, you've been so kind. I'll call again next week and try the exercises.
