The doctor told me its because she is probably run down. We have moved twice in the last 6 months and I probably fuss over the 1 year old and the 8 year old and think she is ok.

What can I do to make her better? She is taking ibuprofen for pain and I have got a loan out for the amount of fruit and veg i bought today.

I feel so bad.

Gosh,you mad thing!
It's not your fault!!
I had it when I was 12.
Can't remember my mother expressing any remorse!!

The medication has to be given within 24 hours of the onset of the sores. Otherwise it's not as effective and is also quite expensive. We pay for our medications in Ireland and it's in the hundreds...

I had chicken pox at 8 yrs, severe dose, and then shingles in my early thirties. They were VERY sore and painful. I also felt like a bus had hit me. I didn't realise what it was until about a week after the spots had come out. I put it down to all sorts of things thinking I was too young for shingles.

I wouldn't send your daughter back to school until she is feeling better. Lots of TLC. Sometimes calamine lotion on the spots can help.

Great advice Colditz.

LofW - was so when i realised what id been saying! hehhehe. poor you, your dad finding it and going nuts - i take it he backed down when it was explained?? and... you have it agian? now?

feel better soon m'dear.

and morespam - best wishes to your dd. lots of tlc is my prescription.... sincerey hope its not as bad as mine was, but if it is even close, dont even think of sending her back to school for a few weeks, it really takes it out of you.
nope, im afraid its lots of lounging on the sofa with a duvet, watching telly and eating ice cream/reading magazines for at least a fortnight following the worst week, when she wont want to do/say/see/feel adamn thing coz she'll be in too much pain/agony.

Yup, he backed down. It coincided with my 1st boyfriend so was understandable, I was just embarrassed! Yup, have it now but it's going slowly, not as severe but has lasted a few weeks.

BeautifulBoysGalore · 14/11/2007 22:51

ah, well take it easy. be gentle with yourself and i hope youre feeling much better soon.
