I think my friends think I am mad for cutting up grapes for my toddler - what is the general feeling?

I met my friends this week and they all had pots of grapes. They were sharing them around and I wanted to cut dds (18 months) in half. I felt a bit silly though because most of their dcs were comping away on whole grapes and I thought I detected a slight bemusement as I insisted on biting them in half before she had them.

Am I being a bit PFB about this? What do you all do?

I have heard of the choking hazard, but only fairly recently and no, I have never cut them up.

I have only just stopped cutting grapes up for my girls, they are 2.1yrs and 3.4yrs

I cut large ones in half.

Especially since my dd had a (mild but still scary) choking incident with grapes at school - in Yr1.

We had a childminder round here, whose charge died from choking on a grape. One of my mindees comes with grapes not cut up and I always cutthem for him. His mum thinks I'm mad. I'd rather be laughed at, than consoled if something awful did happen.

Only read the OP. It isn't so long ago that a 3 year old died when they got a whoe grape stuck. I still cut grapes up for my 6 year old when going in his lunch box. Not being precious in my opinion. 18 months is still a baby.

I also cut grapes in half or quarters till ds1 was about 2, and will continue to do so for ds2 who is 17m.
Same for cherry tomatoes.
It was one of those items that a child choked to death on after being fed it in the supermarket trolley - by a family friend - while the mother was paying.

Why take the risk. Cut them up.

I cut them for both my dc(2 and 4yrs) it's not PFB syndrome it's just looking out for your child.
