Lump in mouth

Dentist or doctor? I can get in more easily at my dentist as private patient but it's a 40 min drive!
It's on the very bottom of the outside of my lower gum and painful if I prod it. No idea how long it's been there, feels like a hard knot

Dentist, I think.

I saw mine about a lump on the inside of my bottom lip.

The dentist referred me to the NHS to have it removed.

Sort of here. Hence I can't see it!

Your dentist. Tbh that's the classic place for an abscess but either way your dentist is the best person to assess your mouth

It's been there a bit and I've been ignoring/forgetting about it Blush as it's not painful unless I poke it and not changing
Will give the dentist a call, I had a check up and hygienist appointment a few months ago but it wasn't there then (I go every 6 months and he always checks all my mouth)

I'm a dental nurse and no point going to the doctors as we can check and refer if needed.

Probably nothing to worry about but we always advise if there is a lump, ulcer etc in your mouth that hasn't healed within two weeks to come and see us.

In the meantime do gargle with salt water to keep it clean.

Thanks Smile I need to wait for a day off work unfortunately as I can't take just a few hours off but I'll have a check and give them a call, they're usually pretty quick to see you unlike my doctors

Yes best to get it checked.
We're NHS & private but get people in on the same day to reassure/asses them.

Could be a tori which is a bony growth usually bilaterally but not all the time. Could even be an ulcer. Hope you get it seen to soon!
