Has anyone got any experience of this? I’m due to have one in the next few weeks and tbth I’m very very nervous. How long does it take to recover? I had a physical job before, which, the consultant said, I’ll need to change. And how did you cope with dressing, showering etc.

Hi did you have this done? I posted about it myself as due next week but had no replies….

Purplewithred · 26/06/2021 20:38

What are they planning to do when they’r;e in there? I had my rotator cuff fixed (it was very badly torn) and a bicep tendonotomy. It did take a long time to mend - the op was in Nov 19 and I was signed off from physio in mid June in the pandemic - by then I had pretty much all movement back again. Had a week off work (off my tits on tramadol), another week working short days, then back to work but from home as couldn’t drive for about 6 weeks. Then gradually got better. My recovery was pretty swift though, many take longer. It was a very exciting day when I could do up my own bra strap again.

Thanks for the reply! It’s for shoulder decompression surgery to deal with bone spur removal and bursitis and minor rotator cuff tear. I’ve provisionally booked two weeks off work so that sounds about right but was just wondering about driving as you’ve said. My main concern is just around every day tasks and how quickly you were able to use that arm? Did you have to use a sling?
I’m struggling to do my bra up as it is so hoping this will address that!

GreenSalon · 27/06/2021 10:22

Also, how long after the op were you able to lift things using that side?

nickyschof · 27/06/2021 22:03

Hi, my op is on the 17th July. I've got exactly the same complaints as yourself Greensalon.

It took me several weeks to do my bra up - I would do it up then step into it and pull it up

Hi, I've had this done for a frozen shoulder and to remove calcification on my right shoulder. I have two scars now..and a very impressive 'impression' at the front where the scar indents when I rotate my shoulder. Th front scar is the biggest, around an inch long. The one at the rear is very small and barely noticeable.

Recovery period was about a month I think, and for the first couple of weeks I struggled to do anything at all really! I'm right handed and it was my right shoulder. But honestly...I am so glad I had it done!! I couldn't use my arm/shoulder at all before the operation, and now have around 95% movement/rotation back and no pain!

Good luck to you xx

GreenSalon · 28/06/2021 09:04

Thanks for the replies. Yes @DotsandCo it’s my right shoulder and also right handed so also wondering about using laptop for work.
So hopeful though that it will sort the pain out!

GreenSalon · 28/06/2021 09:06

Good tip @Perfectlystill

Hi - can I piggyback on to this. I have an x-ray this week as have had a frozen/freezing shoulder since Christmas. Will this pick up if an op is needed or did you then need CT or MRI scans as well?

GreenSalon · 28/06/2021 18:18

I’m not sure @SwedishEdith as I had originally been diagnosed by physio as having a frozen shoulder but referral to orthopaedic surgeon recommended MRI which confirmed his suspicions that it wasn’t a frozen shoulder based on pain levels plus I had too much movement in his opinion for it to be frozen.
Hopefully someone with a frozen shoulder rather than impingement and tear, which I have, can better advise

SwedishEdith · 28/06/2021 18:48

Thank you @GreenSalon. Hopefully, my x-ray will reveal more.

nickyschof · 04/07/2021 09:10

@GreenSalon. Have you had your op? How's it gone?

OP posts:
GreenSalon · 04/07/2021 11:33

Yes! @nickyschof had it a few days ago and currently recovering. All straight forward apparently and though I am sore from the op I can tell inflammation pain has gone. Will be a while if I know how successful it has been dealing with impingement and tendon issues
Wearing a sling when out and only in bed for first 48 hours but it is sore at night. Bit frustrating doing everything one handed and expected to be off work for 3 weeks and not drive for 6. Physio starts in two weeks and gentle physio x 4 times a day until then.

nickyschof · 04/07/2021 13:20

Oh that's good. Pleased that it seems to have gone well for you. Smile
