Started at 10.30. He got to the point where he was doing that dry retching. Diahorrea started at 4am. He says he is hungry, I don't want to give him anything just yet. What can i give him later - toast maybe? I ahve just given him a small sip of water to see if he keeps that down

Also neither of us got much sleep - it was about every 20-30 minutes he was being sick. He wants to lie on the sofa and watch a DVD, I want to go to bed, him as well. I'm worried I will fall asleep on the sofa! Mind you, he's 7 so he would be ok I suppose

Best to stick to the BRAT diet - bananas, rice, apple, toast.

Hope he's better soon.

I think curent advice is to let them eat if they want to - I would offer toast (although not with butter - maybe just jam? that's what DS2 had the other day when he had been sick) and some water.

And try and get some sleep - if you can both have a sofa day, you may feel a bit better for it!

You must make sure he drinks water, even if he vomits it back up. You musn't let him get dehydrated. You can also give diarolyte (sp?) or flat lemonade to keep his salts and sugars up

I'd let him eat if he wanted to, just bland food like dry toast

But he must have lots of fluids

Hi Saltire poor thing. My DS had similiar a few weeks ago and an ex-nurse at my work suggested cooled boiled water with a very small amount of sugar and salt added. I gave it to him while the water was still a little bit warm and he did seem to feel a lot better afterwards. Similar to what Minorityrules suggests? I do hope you are both feeling better soon

I'm off to call work now - I've only been there a week!.
Anyway, he is now lying on teh sofa with his duvet and pillow and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and Narnia DVDs ready to watch. he has kept down the small amount of water he had, but says his tummy is still really sore - the only way he seems to get relief from it is if he curls right up with his knees almsot on his chest

If he is trying to make his tummy warmer with his knees how about a hot water bottle on it? My Nan used to swear by hot water bottles for all sorts of aches and pains!

saltire · 14/11/2007 09:12

He is currently lying with a hot water bottle. he is asking for Calpol to take the pain away but I'm not keen to give him any if he's being sick.

you cant worry about work, salty, you dont have much of a choice.

ds is probably just tired now. have a good day.

saltire · 14/11/2007 11:49

He has kept his toast down, which is a good thing I suppose. He's in the bath just now, hoping again it will help him feel sleepy . I need a sleep!
