Anyone had a breast reduction?

I’ve recently booked to see a (private) consultant at the end of may and was wondering what experience you had.

How long after the consultation did you have your op?
What questions should I ask?

I’m currently a 34G/GG and hoping to get down to a C/D. I’ve hated them for so many years I’m just so excited to finally be able to get them sorted

Well done for booking a consultation- for me it was one of the best things I ever did!
Once you have decide to go ahead and the consultant is happy you are a suitable candidate it should be very quick - although dependent on the consultants availability. I went along for some pre op tests (which included a mammogram) and then chose my date. You need to allow a couple of weeks off work to recover.
My only regret was not doing it sooner. Good luck!

I thought about it, but a friend of mine had had one, and within a few years they grew back, so I just thought what would be the point of the pain and the money for that.

I have too and my only regret was not doing it earlier as well!

Mine was private, it was 10 years ago so I’m
hazy on some of the details, but my first appointment with the surgeon was dreadful. He really, really focused on the negatives like they might not be even, might be infections, I can’t remember what else but barely any positives, and I had pinned so many hopes on it I burst into inconsolable tears after the appointment. I did ask for a different surgeon and the next one bounded in proclaiming I can make you beautiful or something like that. I definitely went with him!

I was young and it was a long while ago so I hope they’d be better but I remember there wasn’t much patient experience, they never discussed size or anything, I was very much talked at rather than with.

But as I say probably the best decision of my life and it made a huge difference, and they did a great job

I had one about 5 years ago. I'm 49.

I was 36HH. I'd been awfully unhappy about them for most of my life.

I pretty much knew I wanted the op before I went for the consultation. When I met the consultant I felt confident in him and relieved that he was so knowledgable and experienced (well I know he's a consultant Grin). I can't remember the exact timeline. I needed a medical check first and he said he wanted me to have a mammogram too (the clinic arranged this). I think it was 2 months from first consultation to op.

We never discussed cup size post op. It's not like breast implants where you choose a size. The Dr reassured me that he would achieve a size that looked right for my frame that seemed right.
The op was pretty major and I was on strong morphine. However after a few days in hospital I was about to be discharged with just codine. I healed pretty quickly. I returned once a week at first to the clinic for aftercare, then extended it. My last appt was about 12 months after. The hardest thing about it was the tiredness I felt trying to recover. One minute I would feel fine and then would feel crushing exhaustion suddenly. This went on for about 5/6 months.

My boobs are still fairly large - 36G. HOWEVER....and this is the big thing for me In surgery they weighed approx 9lbs in weight of breast tissue that they removed. That's 9lbs that I'm not carrying around everyday on my chest. They look massively smaller. They feel hugely lighter. It's completely changed my life. I don't have to worry about clothes as much as I did. I don't think about my boobs 24/7 like I did.

So my main point would be don't concentrate on cup size. You're not 'picking' a size. The size achieved will be right for you.

The best thing I've ever done for myself. I wish I'd done it years ago.

Good luck.

Oh and the scars are literally invisible. Bio oil!

Lubilu28 · 30/04/2021 08:26

Wow thank you for the responses 🤗

I don’t think anyone can say anything that is going to put me off having them done. I don’t care about the scars, I know there’s going to pain and a long healing process, And the risk of my nipples dying? Well if they do, take them off 🙈😂

I hope when I go to the consultation he says he’s had a cancellation and can do it within a week 😆 wishful thinking I know

PatsArrow wow 9lbs off that’s amazing!! I bet it has made such a difference. I’ve chosen a surgeon who has has over 20 years experience in loads of different breast surgeries so I’m hopeful when I see him that I feel comfortable with him.

I would love to do this too.

If anyone has any good recommendations of surgeons in London, and any ballparks of cost these days I'd be very interested to know.

Good luck OP, by far the large majority testimonies I've read from people on here are that it was a great thing for them Daffodil

PatsArrow · 30/04/2021 10:24

Sorry I'm in the South West and went to the Circle in Bath (if you're prepared to travel! But I recommend as close to home as possible).

I had a personal recommendation from a friend of a friend.

My nipples are fine, although one is less sensitive than before but I'll take that!

The biggest thing for me was the feeling of 'lightness'. People are surprised when I say I've had a reduction as I still have substantial boobs but they're not overly large, they're a great shape, I don't get skin rashes and heat problems, neck problems etc. Everyone gets very focused on cup size but for me it's not about that. They may still be a G cup but they look HALF the size and they certainly feel it.
