A quick Mirena question - unexpected bleeding.

I have had my Mirena for 2 and a bit years now. Been problem free and have had not a hint of an AF since before I had DS4. Tonight I seem to be starting an AF, slight bleeding and crampy tum. The past few days I have had stabbing pains, low down, thought it might be poking me.

I have a cold and have been coughing and sneezing alot, wondered if this might cause the bleeding.

Would be interested to hear of any similar experiences.

P.S I shouldn't really be here, I am meant to be typing some quotes for DH but I shall dip in and out

Anyone? I'm just a little bit puzzled by it.

Have you had occasional bleeding with the mirena before? I've only had mine for about six months and my bleeding has stopped completely so I'm not sure if this is common tbh. I was told that if I experienced heavy bleeding or pain at any time I should go to the clinic and have it checked in case it has become dislodged - can you still feel the threads?

MM - some very slight spotting but not really bleeding in the past but not like this, it's just like a light period, bright red blood. I will go and check threads in a bit (one more quote to type LOL). Maybe my violent sneezing has displaced it

OK - threads are there - think it must just be my AF, I haven't got a single item of sanitary protection in the house!!

ML I've just checked the leaflet I got when my Mirena was fitted. I don't want to worry you but it says "You should tell your doctor if you have lower abdominal (tummy)pain, especially if you have a fever, or have missed a period or have unexpected bleeding. This might be a sign of ectopic pregnancy". I thought I ought to let you know - do you think it would be best for you to call NHS direct and discuss it with a doctor just in case?

Thanks Mazza - I have to confess that thought has been lurking at the back of my mind. I haven't had the pains today though but I will definately see GP if the pain comes back or bleeding gets worse. xx

mega, my experience has been this, i have had my bastard coil for just over a year. Recent monthlys have been stabbing pains, slight bleeding, crampy tum. Especially after sex. I did go to the doctors, she checked it was still in place, sent me for an ultrasound, no fibroids or other nasties thankfully. I was worried at the time but i soon recognised the pattern that this would happen a few days before a small period type bleed and a few days after. It is starting to settle down now though. My periods have always been irregular, this is the only spotting i tend to have though. Have you felt to see if you can feel the strings? If it continues go to your gp, my betting it is just the lovely marina coil doing its thing.

Can definately feel the strings and the bleeding and the pain have stopped now. Will make a note of this on calender and see if it becomes a regular occurence - hope not as i like being period free.

Oh arse - it's definately just the return of periods isn't it? Started agian this morning, hadn't noted date of last bleeding but the remembered this thread and realised would find date from it!! What do you know 27 days later!! And how useful is MN for keeping track of tehse things

I had got so used to not having periods - it's been over 3 years.
