My 9 year old daughter has several warts on her fingers. They started growing several years ago and despite trying many many many different things, are still there. I've tried to see a doctor about them a couple of times, but don't get much further than 'they'll go away on their own after a few months' and they never seem to believe me when I tell them they've been there for at least four years now.

She has one on the knuckle of her index finger, one on each thumb by the fingernail, and her worst finger has them all around the finger nail. That one has now cracked and started bleeding today.

She hates them, and is very self conscious of them, especially her worst affected finger.

Please share any and all treatments we could try. I need to crack this and get rid of them for her. Thanks!

Not a treatment as such, but I used to suffer terribly with them. My grandad used to ‘buy’ them off me - he rubbed a 50p piece on them and they disappeared.

Absolutely sure there’s no science behind it. It it really worked!

Ostryga · 27/04/2021 20:08

And gave me the 50p that should say

My DD, 8, had several verrucas on her feet. At one point there were about 14 of them. She has really sweaty feet, so none of the salicylic acid treatments work as it falls off, as do plasters. But, this silver nitrate pen worked. Two treatments, about a week or two apart, & then I just waited & the core of the biggest verrucas fell out. I was going to have another go at them, but they've all gone away. Be warned, it stains like a bastard, so they need to wear socks 24/7 until treatment is fully completed, you'll need a bathmat, & any white or pale socks (or in your case, thin cotton gloves, for night-time) will be permanently stained. DD reported that it wasn't particularly uncomfortable. As they're on her hands rather than feet, you'll probably need help her with hair washing etc for at least a few days after each treatment.

I accidentally got a tiny smear on my face. Didn't realise until several hours later, by which time it had reacted (it turns black). Dont do that...

Thanks, I may have to resort to buying them off her. Really wish I could, she told me this afternoon that some children at school have noticed and have been made unkind comments. I'd pay anything to be able to take them off her.
I asked her if she wanted to try the silver nitrate pencil. She wasn't keen on the idea of her skin turning black as she thought that would draw even more attention to them, but I will look further into it. Wish there was one in a less obvious place that we could try it on to at least see if it would work.

The bleeding is a good thing as it helps the body recognize and be able to fight the virus.

My dd had warts over her hands and fingers at a similar age, and my ds a large verruca what worked for both of them was Thuja tablets.

SwanShaped · 29/04/2021 16:01

There’s a new treatment called Verrutop that is supposed to be good.

AnExcellentWalker · 29/04/2021 22:34

I also got DD to take a children's vitamin that contains zinc. Don't know if it helped but it didn't cost much. I had verrucas for about 20 years, one individual verruca lasted at least a decade & was enormous. It was the silver thing that finally got rid of it. Maybe if all else fails you could do it over the summer holidays, pick one or two that are less conspicuous. Or maybe she could wear plasters over them?

I bought my now husbands when we were friends, they went. My nan bought my dds, they went too

WhiteVixen · 05/05/2021 04:27

That Verrutop treatment looks amazing! Doesn't seem to be available for general purchase though, I'd have to find a chiropodist or someone to have her treated.

Looks like I just need to buy them off her though Grin what's the going rate, 50p per wart?

I used wartner (freeezes it off) on my finger wart at 14 as kept catching it and making it bleed and causing pain.
It started to grow back a few years ago but not fully so now at age 31 I have a small raised circle on my finger but causes no problems and I barely notice it

ColonelPine · 05/05/2021 04:40

Salactol. Worked brilliantly on warts and verrucas for us.

happy97 · 05/05/2021 04:44

Duct tape worked for my daughter. A small piece and then covered with a plaster.

Wish I'd known I could have bought it off her though!

cleaning247 · 05/05/2021 05:08

I find vitamin e tablets brilliant. You pierce them and rub it on once or twice a day.

doradoo · 07/05/2021 15:55

I think the fact that no one thing works fir everyone suggests that it's probably just time / eventual immune response which is responsible!

Though the homeopathic remedy worked for my dd, she's also been picking and made them bleed.

KurtWilde · 07/05/2021 16:04

Duct tape worked for my DDs, something in the adhesive kills the wart

picklemewalnuts · 07/05/2021 19:03

I believe that the body gets rid of them when it believes they should go. I know that sounds weird. My son insisted on seeing the GP about his. The GP told him they would go soon. Two weeks or so later we noticed they weren't there anymore. Just disappeared.

Same with selling, or rubbing them with a gold ring. Effectively you tell the child it will work and they believe it, and the warts go.
