Dear mum keeps breaking out in these all over arms for no reason, has COPD and other health issues yet surgery will not book her in until the 5th of May to speak to a doctor first before getting seen to! where in Glasgow, Scotland, why are people being treated like this

Is she on steroids for the copd? Those sorts of marks aren’t uncommon in people on steroids (or anti platelets or anticoagulants if she’s on any of those too).

Your appointment is next week. It doesn't seem like an emergency situation.

As pp said , if she is on a steroid inhaler or oral steroids this thin skin that marks / bleeds is quite a common problem . I get it very badly as I take a multitude of medications and both oral and inhaled steroids , I can literally get marks like in your photos just from towel drying after a shower or bumping my arms slightly . I’ve been told by my respiratory consultant that the only thing that will improve it is to reduce my steroid intake but that is not possible in my case .

My DF takes aspirin every day to thin his blood and he is always covered in marks like those, especially the last photo. He only has to slightly bump something and it happens, and his skin often tears also.

Has she shown them to a pharmasist?

Ginandplatonic · 29/04/2021 03:42

Steroids was my first thought too. 5th May seems reasonable to me, unless there are other issues you haven’t mentioned - the bruising in itself isn’t an urgent problem.

Is she on Wafarin or steroids?

fallfallfall · 29/04/2021 04:01

not unusual at all. thin skin and yes medication.

My dms skin is like this. The slightest knock and her skin goes red to purple. It’s thin skin.
My dm was on warfarin for a long time. She had to be really careful not to cut herself accidentally. I don’t think that helped.
