D-Mannose for UTI

Magic1231 · 25/04/2021 13:55

Hi,
I've currently got a UTI which isnt shifting with antibiotics, I've bought some sachets of D-Mannose to hopefully help... it says to take one sachet a day which I know is just a prevention. Should I take more as I have an infection or is it dangerous to take too much?
Xxx

D-mannose is great, but only works of the infection is caused by e-coli. Most utis are, but not all.
I’ve only ever had it in capsule form. I’d say if you have an active infection it’s ok to take more, you can’t overdose, it’s a type of sugar.

If that doesn’t work, I’ve always found a prescription for Nitrofurantoin works for me. Hope you feel better soon.

Ahh, thankyou.
I was given nitrofurantoin but unfortunately it was only a 3 day course so didnt do the trick.
I'm not certain what the infection is but as you say most are e-coli. I'm currently taking cefalexin, which isnt doing much x

I’ve only taken the capsules at the max recommended dose. I was very sceptical, but they really worked
I stopped them after a few days, the UTI threatened to return, so I continued them for another few days amd it disappeared completely

You could take the whole box of them and it wouldn't help. I took a high dose for nearly 3 months and it did bugger all.

If it did anything, GP's would prescribe it. I needed the nitrofurantoin for 7 days to shift mine. Other one that works well for me is ciprofloxacin.
