Chest pains, at A&E, handhold please

Posted about a week ago regarding heart palpitations. Been having them almost a month, daily and really hundreds of missed beats, thuds, weird rhythms etc every day. Tachycardia at times too. I’m mid forties.

Had an ECG and bloods done at GP, on Monday the results of those were ‘normal’. Typically at the time of ECG, my heart was behaving itself, but I don’t really know if that’s meaningful or not. Due to get a 24 hour holter monitor fitted in 2 weeks time.

Anyway, the last 2 days I’ve been having left arm pain, upper left chest pain and pain around my heart area. Phoned GP this morning and he has sent me straight to A&E where I’m now sitting. I’ve had a blood test and ECG here and now waiting to see a doctor, don’t have any more info at present.

Shitting myself. Keep worrying about my DS and DH, if anything happened to me I don’t think they would cope and I feel like I’m more worried about that than anything else, which is perhaps strange, but I need to be there for them and not dropping dead!

Just posting for a handhold really.

Please make sure they've checked your thyroid function in hospital. Could be an overactive thyroid. It was missed by A&E when I went to A&E for severe palpitations. I only found out because I did my own private blood test 3 months later.

That wouldn't cause chest pain but can cause severe palpitations and anxiety (and anxiety can cause chest pain). It also stops you sleeping. You basically feel wired and pulse racing. You can also get hot flushes (which I mistook for peri). Just something to bear in mind.

On a separate note, if you were taking biotin in any supplement when you had bloods taken you should get them redone as they can affect any blood test results done using an immunoassay (including thyroid). Supplements with biotin should be stopped about a week prior to any blood tests.

Good luck I hope you find out what's causing this.

Thanks everyone for your help - I’m feeling a bit less fired up with worry today. Skipped beats are continuing, but I’m just trying to float with it, the racing beats have calmed a bit though which is good.

My GP checked thyroid and it was fine. I think the bloods in a&e were more to see if I’d had a heart attack, so I assume were looking for troponin, thankfully that was all good.
Not taking any Biotin supplements that could skew results - didn’t know about this so thanks for the info @RavingAnnie.

Been doing deep breathing, trying to relax and have downloaded the Calm app. Have ordered Magnesium Taurate, co-q 10 and B12. All of those seem to be particularly recommended for ectopics. I’ve been watching Dr Sanjay Gupta on YouTube, he’s very good.

Just going to have to get on with it until I get the holter and have more info. I do have Bupa, so wondering whether my GP could refer me privately to a cardiologist for an echo scan, but think it’s probably better to wait until I get the holter and have more info.

but if you need an echo, the cardiologist at the hosp can arrange it.
