Eat then brush teeth or brush teeth then eat? Early mornings (am) routine

OP posts:

Depends what you're eating or drinking. If you drink fruit juice for e.g then you should wait 20/30 minutes after eating as the acid softens the enamel and you would end up damaging it by brushing too soon afterwards.

I tend to eat after brushing as brushing is part of my getting dressed routine before I go downstairs.

lazylinguist · 21/04/2021 10:23

I'm pretty sure dentists' advice is to brush before breakfast.

LindaEllen · 21/04/2021 10:37

I always brush after breakfast. I don't understand people who brush before - it makes your breakfast taste awful!

emmathedilemma · 21/04/2021 10:45

I'd always do mine after breakfast unless I was doing something first e.g. going for a run or driving to work and then eating (both rare events!).

I find the opposite- claggy morning breath makes my breakfast taste awful! I don’t understand how people can eat without brushing away the night breath.

Different people have different preferences and routines. Do what works for you.

I don't like morning mouth so I prefer to brush teeth first. I don't eat straight away afterwards so don't have minty breath still

Brush teeth before eating

RaininSummer · 21/04/2021 10:58

Always brushed after eating/first coffee just before leaving for work. I don't feel right if I go to work with post breakfast teeth.

quarentini · 21/04/2021 15:13

I do both

picklemewalnuts · 21/04/2021 15:16

Brush before eating. Eating softens the enamel, so brushing too soon will wear it away faster.

dizzydizzydizzy · 21/04/2021 15:21

Surely after eating? Then you have clean teeth for the next few hours.

As PP has said, not directly after eating though because it damages your emamel. My DCs clean their teeth just before they leave for school.

elsaesmeralda · 21/04/2021 15:27

I always brush before eating, then brush them again after my tea at night

Palavah · 21/04/2021 15:30

You're supposes to leave 45 mins between brushing and eating, or eating and brushing.

I prefer to brush afterwards and stay feeling fresh, but if im not eating breakfast straight awat or eg going to the gym first then I'll swill with mouthwash and/lr toothpaste without actually brushing.

Justploddinhalong · 21/04/2021 16:42

I always brush after breakfast. DH brushes before, as soon as he wakes up

dementedpixie · 21/04/2021 18:28

I dont think it matters as long as your teeth are brushed before bed. Think nhs says brush twice a day and make sure one of those times is before bed. It doesn't specify the other time to do it
