Doctor wants to speak to me about fecal calproctecin results

Just wondering if anyone has any experience of this? Currently shitting myself and convinced I have something awful.

Missed call and text message from doctor, called back and the doctor had left to do a house call.

The receptionist said I need to book a routine appointment to discuss results of my fecal calproctecin test. I've suspected I have chrohns for a long time.

Will get to speak to doctor tomorrow but just worried what they may have found, has anyone else had this happen?

Thanks in advance for any replies!

To be fair, my GP called me just to say my results were normal and to discuss where we went from here...but if it is out of normal ranges, they will probably refer you for a colonoscopy to see if they can see the cause for your test results. If it’s suspected IBD, they’ll probably do biopsies throughout the colon to confirm that suspicion. (I work in this field so I hope that helps and can answer follow up questions).

Hi, thanks so much for your reply. That's reassuring then, hopefully they may be normal and just want a chat.

I'm terrible for worrying about anything to do with my health so probably blowing it all out of proportion. It would be good to have a colonoscopy if they think it's needed to try and see what's going on.

Thank you, that's a big help and really reassuring. If the results are high does that usually indicate IBD or can it be something else?

You’re welcome! A high result indicates that there’s blood in your stool. That could be from IBD, could be from polyps or could be (is quite often) down to haemorrhoids that bleed, sometimes we don’t find anything. Typically anyone who gets a positive test result gets referred to gastro so we can identify the cause.

I had a colonoscopy in the past (known IBS). It was quite reassuring to know there was nothing else good on.

Good news, had call back from the GP. She said there's no inflammation present so she thinks it is IBS.

I had bloods done this morning which should be back Thursday so I'll see if they show anything, not sure if they can see if there's inflammation in bloods or not.

Glad to hear you were okay and they didn't find anything. It can be such a worry can't it not knowing what is causing the symptoms.
