I've had both,(2 months ago) the osteopathy was what I thought, manipulation. The acupuncture was strange, can't really explain it. The therapist said some people go to sleep during treatment, I found it sort of numb & tingly where the needles were and it made my legs feel really heavy. It also made me feel a bit sick. The next day I felt bruised. But don't be put off, I had 2 treatments and my back felt loads better and no problems since. And I would go back if I felt I needed to.

I would simply LOVE to see him (have read most of his books and I am considering the appointment but can't fit one in just now).
Are you in Scotland then?

Had both, osteopathy definitely worked, but couldn't feel much difference after NHS acupuncture.

He might try homeopathy too, don't hesitate.

I haven't had osteopathy, although my best friend swears by it. But I have had acupunture (for dodgy back) and it was wonderful. I really used to look forward to my weekly sessions and they were not only therapeutic, but extremely relaxing aswell. Highly recommended. One thing though, the physiotherapist who treated me, made me wear shorts for the sessions (even though it was middle of winter ), so I would suggest you 'be prepared' and take some.

I had both. I personally thought the acupuncture was complete bollocks. I went as a last ditch attempt to get pregnant after being told IVF was our only option. I laughed all the way through and made jokes about 'only needing a little prick to get pregnant'.

Then I got pregnant that night (on day nine of my cycle)

Osteopathy - had it when I was pregnant, seemed a bit weird to me, put a straw in my mouth and had me blow while he lifted my bum off the couch. I told him I'd normally expect to be wearing more fancy clothes for that sort of kinky shinnigans . Worked though, went in on crutches (SPD) came out walking. DH has gone a lot to him for his frozen shoulder too (it's 90% fixed).

I had acupuncture to help with morning sickness. It was strange and I'm not sure how effective, but my Mum (very conventional, not into alternative therapies) swears by it for her back.
I've also had osteopathy for a severe stiff neck - the manipulation was fantastic and my neck felt better afterwards than it had for ages, so it probably sorted out an underlying problem.

I had both, acupuncture is fab! 9I initially thought it was aload of b...s) But my waters broke and nothing happened so booke din for induction. MW suggested acupunture and was in established labour within an hour of receiving the treatment and had DS at home.

With DD I had bad SPD and limped in and walked out, amazing the difference that made and so quickly!

Osteopathy used to see him for my wiplash and saw him after I had my DC ro get body back in balance and go back now and again to have a 'massage' he also does kinetology if you like to splash out

That's excellent value, I pay more for osteopathy down south for my son at the moment. I wish I could just hop over there, I have used a lot of his book advice with excellent results, but could do with even more inspiration and customised approach for my son.
Get hold of one of his books that covers the aspect you are treating (I have read all his books that I could lay my hands on in my county and a lot of it makes perfect sense).
I hope it works for you too.

Starshaker, how did you get on?

Fireflytoo · 17/11/2007 10:02

My dd2 had cranial osteopathy at 8 months for a problem too long to explain here and she was fine from straight after.. I have have osteopathy many times and will swear by it. I think in fact all new mums should be offered osteopathy after birth... and it doesn't always involve manipulation...sometimes just very effective massage. Wish it wasn't so expensive.
