I've just started with this, following a full day out in very flat shoes. Please can anyone recommend some nice looking summery trainers that will support the feet well? Thank you

Vionics or Hokas. I recently got some nikes which are quite comfy too. Make sure you tackle your PF though, I had it in 2018 and just placated it with comfy shoes and it developed and now am having physio as I’m in way worse agony and my nerves are confused and hyper reacting 🙃 so definitely get on top of it.

SOLINVICTUS · 18/04/2021 15:28

Fitflop white leather trainers and Skechers cured mine after Vionics and orthotics did nothing.

Before u start buying trainers, try Fortuna arch support full length insoles, I use those in any new trainers and I am fine (recently have walked a marathon).

But if I don't wear them, the pain comes back very quickly.

lazylinguist · 18/04/2021 16:39

Anything supportive with a thick sole will help, but won't necessarily actually get rid of the PF. What sorted mine was doing Adriene's post-run yoga stretch after every walk or run. And never walking barefoot around the house.

Oofos

I have flat feet and get a lot of foot pain. Vejas are the most comfortable shoe I have ever worn but you do need trainer socks with them. After that, Steve Madden trainers -more of a style trainer than a sports trainer, but very comfy!

Skechers trainers and these 👇🏻

not skecher trainers, far too soft and bouncy to be supportive. don't know about all styles, though.
depending on what you need the shoes for I might consider hiking shoes. or ecco shoes.

I wear flat slippers so that probably doesn't help. Currently sat wearing a pair of old Vionic flip flops but with socks because it's cold

I second the pressure socks, they're excellent. Also the sports insoles from Lidl when they do them.

I've found any Adidas cloudform trainers Good, even the £20 ones out of Sports Direct.

ThePontiacBandit · 18/04/2021 17:48

I got a recommendation for knee high socks with a strap up to the knee to wear at night, made the most difference. Birkenstock’s are amazing, really supportive. Great for the summer.

lazylinguist · 18/04/2021 19:03

Pressure socks did nothing for me! I wear crocs as slippers - I find them brilliant for PF. I had PF for 2 years and tried so many things. Even tried a night splint (but ditched it because I couldn't sleep with it on). The yoga stretches were the only thing that worked.

Fairystory · 18/04/2021 19:09

I wear Ecco shoes and have different ones to wear indoors and never go without them. I wore support socks for around a year. I do stretches at least twice daily. I've had this 3 years now and it recurs if I let up with the stretches and supportive shoes.

ihavethehighground · 18/04/2021 22:17

Thankyou for all the ideas. Going to try some of the socks and some supportive trainers.

I have this stretch board. Sorted my plantar in a fornight. Recommended by someone on here 10 years ago. Everytime it flares I use it. I need a neutral runner as I have under pronation ( as opposed to one that supports the arch for an over pronater). If you get the wrong sort of trainer it can make the plantar worse. I use Asics sonoma gel trainers and have been walking miles in lockdown with no problems..

Lightweight Merrells worked for me. I bought a pair just for indoor use but now the pain has resolved, I wear Crocs instead on hard floors indoors instead of slippers.

Boph · 21/04/2021 21:37

Whatever you choose wear them in the house as well, never go barefoot.

JumpingFrogs · 21/04/2021 21:52

Get a chiropodist to make you a pair of insoles. I think mine cost £75 and I swap them between different shoes. I mostly wear Birkenstocks in the summer, and decent trainers in the winter and don't need the insoles for either of these. I never go barefoot indoors, and wear fitflop slippers. Had suffered from plantar fasciitis for several years but its completely cleared up now!

ihavethehighground · 21/04/2021 22:59

Thankyou for all the fantastic advice.

The only thing that cured my PF was intermittent fasting. Cured in less than 10 days. Because it's anti-inflammatory.
For shoes, I was most comfortable in Fitflops, but hadn't tried their trainers.

Salomon trail running trainers work well for me
