reading glasses with contact lenses

I have contact lenses for short sight but find I don't see close up so well with them, compared to when wearing my glasses, which are varifocals...silly and prob`ably obvious question, but do other people use reading specs (over the counter ones) with their lenses. I can read perfectly well close up without lenses or glasses.

I do. Seems a bit silly when wearing contact lenses to be spec-free, but old age is obviously catching up with me!

did you buy over the counter or ask the optician ? I tried some on on Saturday and they improved my near sight with lenses in quite noticeably

I just bought some over the counter - very cheaply I might add. They seem to do the trick. My mum got some over the counter ones after losing her (very-expensive) optician prescribed reading glasses. She says she can't tell the difference!

MaryAnn - so long as you have a straightforward reading prescription (ie +2.00ds in both eyes) then over the counter reading specs are really good. but if you have a large difference in your eyes (ie more than 1.00ds) then i would probably get some proper reading specs from the opticians. Specsavers do a cheap £39 range including lenses.

If you really don't like wearing glasses, you could try wearing different strength lenses in each eye. See the third paragraph here Some people get on very well like that.
