Electronic prescription

My GP has prescribed some medication for me. I failed to check how to collect it when I spoke to her. I thought I would try and get it after work tonight and only then thought about the fact that with covid I wouldn't be collecting it physically from the GP surgery.

I checked the GP website and it said they were doing electronic prescriptions. However, it gives no indication how to actually get it. I will call one of the local pharmacies tomorrow and find out if they can get it for me. If they can't help I will ask the GP surgery on Monday.

Has anyone got any experience of how you get new prescriptions now?

Have they not sent it directly to a pharmacy?
That's what my gp is doing

Tibtab · 16/04/2021 21:50

You normally have to specify a pharmacy that you want it sending to. Have you ever had an electronic script before?

GOODCAT · 16/04/2021 22:06

Thanks @dementedpixie and @Tibtab

No not had one before and I haven't specified a pharmacy. Would I specify that to the GP or the pharmacy?

There is a pharmacy at the surgery and two other pharmacies near by. Ideally I want to get it from the pharmacy nearby that stays open late as it is easier to pick it up.

Do you have a login for online services on your GP website?
If so, your medications prescribed will probably be listed there, together with details of your 'default' pharmacy where the prescription will be sent. You can change this, but it may be too late for this particular one.

Phone the surgery when they're next open and one of the re epitomises should be able to help you.

RECEPTIONISTS

We have to nominate a pharmacy now for scripts to be sent to. Like you I realised after that I haven't nominated one, but it turned out that my GP had decided for me and sent it to the nearest one to them. Tracked it down. I'd start with the one at your surgery and specify a different one at your GP for future ones, at least you'll get it hopefully.

dementedpixie · 16/04/2021 22:12

You would tell the GP where they should send the prescription.

HunterAngel · 16/04/2021 22:15

Ask your local pharmacy to track it for you. If you know your NHS number it’ll be quicker but they can search using your surname, date of birth and postcode. They’ll be able to tell you where the prescription has been sent.

You don't have to have your prescriptions sent to a pharmacist, you can get a paper token and then you chose where you want to take it to, as I work over 3 sites none of them near where I live and I don't know until the day before what site I will be on having my scripts sent to a specific pharmacy as much use to me as a chocolate tea pot, when I want a new one i send an SAE and have it posted to me, OK it takes a bit of a bit of pre planning to ensure I don't run out of meds but I have been managing my own medication for over 50 years so I donT see it as a problem.

Your GP is also not allowed to nominate a pharmacist and just send your prescription there they need your explicit consent to do that

GOODCAT · 17/04/2021 15:47

Just on case it helps anyone I went to my preferred pharmacy this afternoon and they tracked it down and made it up for me immediately, which was brilliant.
