Thirsty child - would you be worried? Could it be connected with post-pneumonia recovery?

This is on behalf of my boss: her 5yo dd had very bad pneumonia in August. She is recently drinking a lot of water, and sometimes getting panicky, saying she needs some water immediately.

Not tired or showing other signs of diabetes. Not weeing a lot. Other than thirstiness, seems perfectly fine.

Could she just be a thirsty child?

Just giving a bump.

I would get it checked out, just to be on the safe side.

Thanks chinwag (like your name, btw). Her dd is due (well, overdue) an eight-week post-pneumonia check-up, which my boss has just remembered about and will arrange today.

Anyone else had experience of this?

My ds2 drinks alot for someone his size (30lb at nearly 3 1/2), he drinks over 2litres a day. No-one else seems concerned even though it is a fairly recent development. We have put it down to having the central heating on alot and the fact that he eats mainly dry food, so gets almost no liquid from his diet, so he has to drink it.

I doubt that helps much, but I hope it turns out to be nothing. I think her mother shoudl mention it at the appt.

Thanks Heartmum2Jamie, she will def. mention it (seeing GP Monday). Central heating is an interesting one, could be connected if it's only started recently, I'll tell my boss. xx
