Is exposing poorly DS2 to cold air A Really Bad Idea??

That's what my mum reckons. Poor little mite (19 months old) has been in hospital recently with pneumonia and it was all a bit scary but thankfully he is well on the way to recovery now, although he still has a nasty cough. It is getting a bit parky here in Yorkshire and my DM is adamant that he should not be exposed to cold air or Something Bad will happen. I wasn't planning on taking him for a walk in the woods or suchlike, just a 10 min jaunt in the buggy to get to the library, but DM thinks this will have dire consequences.

At first I instinctively dismissed this as an old wives' tale but then I thought, well maybe cold air would do something bad to all that yucky mucus knocking about in his lungs, and I know cold air can set asthmatics off.

Is she right?

I would keep him inside in the warm. Whenever I have a bad chest, cold air hurts like a sod when I breath in, and spasms a cough.

Gah, I am a Bad Mummy.

No you're not, it doesn't hurt everyone, probably doesn't hurt you, so how would you know?

I do like my fresh air y'see. I will keep him in for a few more days then.

I tend to your point of view (brought up by the sort of mother who wouldn't let me take a day off school unless I was actually unable to stand up). But... took full-of-cold ds out to the park Friday afternoon, ds took him out for a long bike ride the next day, by that evening poor ds had a raging temperature and he's been poorly all day today. I am currently feeling like a Bad Mother and reconsidering my 'it's only a cold' stance.

With someone recovering from pneumonia, I think even my mother could be persuaded to take things gently!
