Tonsillitis on one side?

Hi everyone, I had a bit of a one sided sore throat yesterday. This morning I've woken up with yellow spots on my left tonsil and a swollen gland on that side. My temperature is normal, but I do have a headache. I'm not prone to tonsillitis at all, but is it possible to have it on one side only? Is it even tonsillitis given I don't a temp? I don't want to contact the GP unless necessary, and without a fever I'm wondering if I should just wait it out. Any seasoned tonsillitis sufferers got any advice? Thank you!

I have tonsillitis a lot and it’s because it’s only on one side that I know that’s what’s coming, so yes, it’s usually on one side only.

It can get better on its own if you don’t think it’s bad enough to call the GP. I get it at least twice a year and usually end up needing anti-biotics as it becomes unmanageable quickly for me.

Hope you feel better soon and it doesn’t give you too much grief.

Yes it is possible. You should contact your gp. I had tonsillitis 3 years ago.it turned into quinsy. ,I ended up in hospital having my throat drained..that was unpleasant.

Get some hydrogen peroxide from the chemist, dilute and gargle, will taste vile as the bacteria oxidises and you get a foam you have to spit out forming but your tonsillitis will be gone quicker than getting antibiotics from your doctor.

Thanks ladies. I was unable to speak to
a GP as there are no appointments, and the GP receptionist said tonsillitis isn't an emergency unless I can't eat, drink or swallow due to the pain, and thankfully the pain isn't as bad as that at the moment. Have booked a Covid test for tomorrow as temp climbed earlier to 38 (it's normal now after some paracetamol). I'll definitely ask a pharmacist about hydrogen peroxide if Covid test is negative (pretty sure it will be given that I had Covid in November!) and I can get out. I'm breastfeeding but the pharmacist will be able to advise me I'm sure.
