DD got squits really bad - any advice welcome

DD has had the squits since last Tuesday. Phoned HV who said to keep her drinking plenty and it would hopefully flush itself out. Have tried this but she's still got it. Seems ok in herself and still has an apetite. Am only worried because its been going on for so long. Any advice would be welcome. Thanks!

How old is DD? The main thing is that she is drinking which means that she will not get dehydrated. It may be worth taking her to the doctor on Monday (if she still has it) to get her checked out.

Withdraw solid food and only offer water (and or breastmilk if she is still nursing) for 24 hours.

Try and get to a chemist and get some rehydration fluids and mix these with the water. Offer them after each lose bowel movement. Within 12 -24 hours these will clear it up.

When you return to food, avoid dairy for a week or so (you can develop a temp. dairy allergy after having the squits which can cause it to flare up again.

As long as she is lively and has wet nappies, it's not serious.

She's 16 months. She's sat with her dad watching Barney at the minute so she can't be feeling that bad. She's drinking lots which is good but her little backside is red raw. Using that Drapolene cream which seems to be helping.

Ooh you need to whip an egg white and paint it on with a pastry brush - seriously. Then leave it to dry. That'll sort it out in one dose (obviously wash the brush and don't reuse the mixture twice - or indeed to make omelettes )

Thanks. Will give it a go. That has to be up there with one of the strangest tips i've ever got

My dd (11 months) had a week of awful squits last week, got scarily thin. In the end, gp said to give her acidophilus (probiotics): Solgar do a good childrens one, but he said Activia yoghurt ok too. Yoghurt no good in dd's case (she wouldn't eat it, and it gave her the runs when she had a spoonful once) so stuck with acidophilus, she was better within 36 hours of starting it - could be coincidence, but good idea anyway for babe with gut virus.

Hope she's better soon!

Oh, and we used the diarolyte stuff too, giving her drinks of that, and plain water, little and often.

Last time DD1 had squits really badly I rang NHS Direct and they said most up-to-date medical advice is not to withdraw solid food, just stick to small amounts of plain carbs with no dairy. Also said to make an exception and give sugary drinks freely (Ribena or similar).

Just phoned NHS Direct actually. They were really helpful. I'm beginning to wonder where its all coming from. She can't have much left to give IYKWIM
