What's it all about?

Is it worth it?

Anyone got before and after pics?

I did the free trial but tbh didn't both after a couple of days...The app was really poor - very glitchy.

I also didn't like how its whole USP is about having no pressure on you, just positive encouragement and then the minute you get passed all the spiel you're suddenly given a massive countdown timer to sign up before your offer expires - there wasn't a pricing page to view before you decided to go for it or not you were just chucked onto the pricing page with flashing timer like those really cheap online shops.

I did like the access to a diet coach, although they seemed to be in a different timezone because only seemed available when it was the middle of the night here so no direct contact.

Good idea in principle but poorly executed.

My husband signed up for Noom around 2 months ago, after he bumped into a friend in the supermarket who he hadn’t seen for months who had lost loads of weight through using it.

I initially rolled my eyes when he told me the price and I thought it was a faddy thing, but it’s worked amazingly well for him. He’s lost almost 3 stone now, the weight just seems to keep dropping off. From what I can understand it’s mainly just calorie counting so you could probably do it without needing a subscription service, he says it’s really helping to keep him accountable though so is going to keep paying for it for now. The main thing is that it’s really helped him to just think about food in a different way, to understand where the ‘hidden calories’ were for example, and to think about portion sizing and the balance of what’s on his plate. Again, this is all stuff that you could read about for yourself but I guess Noom just makes it really easy.

Good luck with your weight loss OP.

My beast friend did it - was amazing she lost so much weight and felt the best she had in years. Then like with all these fads as soon as she stopped she’s put all the weight back on again

Thanks everyone.

I'm so disappointed in myself. I know what healthy eating is, how to lose weight etc. I just can't stop eating.

There is no off switch, with any type of food. I just never feel full.

I would be very careful about what information you share with noom. I made a subject access request after signing up with them (I win't go into the why's - it's a long story) and they absolutely refuses to engage. Would not supply me with any of my own personal information, only the generic privacy notice from their website. This is very suspicious and concerning. When you sign up with Noom, you gibe them a LOT of very personal information that would be very useful to them from a marketing perspective. Not just info about your height and weight, likes and dislikea, but a whole load of psychological information about your weaknesses and impulses, what makes you tick. What makes you overindulge etc. I would be very interested to find out who they share this data with.

Okbussitout · 04/04/2021 20:39

Terrible. It's just a very low calorie diet.

Mucklemore · 04/04/2021 20:59

I've started it, bout 4 weeks in. I've lost about 9lbs

I quite like it. It is basically a low calorie approach, but with lots of positive affirmations, a few helpful tips and the expectation you check in daily. I find that bit helpful as I have a tendency to fall of the wagon dramatically and then eat badly for a week. Whereas with Noom I might cock up but I get back to it pretty quick.

Thanks for this. It's very interesting. Have you reported to the ICO?

If you're looking at keeping tabs on your calorie intake then I really recommend nutracheck.

Deeply concerning about Noom and privacy!

I'm just over a month into it and finding it useful so far. It combines step counter (with gradually increasing step goals), calorie counting, daily weighing with an average curve that smooths out the bumps, a support group and daily articles about the psychology behind weight loss and healthy way of eating in one app. You could get it all from different apps and websites but so far I have found it useful to get into the habit of just following this one thing and having everything I need to think about in one place.

I log in each morning, record my weight, read the day's articles (about 10 mins) and check the group chat. Then it reminds me to log food during the day. I'm usually ok with the first couple of weeks of any weight loss program then lose motivation. I'm finding noom useful in habit formation and sticking with it over the inevitable dips in motivation and slips (hello Easter chocolate!) - signed up for 4 months and I am hoping the fact that I paid for it will help me to stick with it!

The articles are mostly common sense but there are things I hadn't known or considered in there, and the daily encouragement is useful. I like that there are no ads on the app, and no soliciting allowed on the group discussion board, which is moderated by a lead who posts (fairly generic) motivational stuff and responds to some member posts most days.

I'm nooming at the moment- absolutely love it. Came to it at just the right time for me. Have lost 7lbs in 5 weeks. It's v much more than calorie control. I basically decided to embrace it, follow the science and psychology of it all and see what results I got.

I'm not v overweight- probably about a stone and a half over, but I had lots of rubbish habits and ways of justifying certain eating without even realising it. I think this will change my long term eating approach. I have a v patchy diet history- very 'all or nothing' then failing early and giving up.

So, I'd say if u r in the right frame of mind to make a change then Noom is worth it. I also liked that it wasn't mega cheap as it made me take the commitment more seriously.

Good luck with whatever route u choose xx
