Need third pair of glasses (spectacles)?

OK, so I know that I can probably just ask at Specsavers or Boots, but what's the harm in asking here and seeing if anyone has the same issue?
My long-distance glasses work great at distances of more than about 3 feet, and my reading glasses work well for distances up to about 2 feet, but there's this area in between, which unfortunately is the distance from my eyes to my PC monitor at my desk (about 2 and a half feet) where neither pair of glasses works perfectly and things are a bit blurry in both sets of glasses. Can I ask for a third set which works at this in-between distance, or is this just something I'll have to get used to? Thanks for all replies!

Musicians often need a pair specifically for reading music due to the different distance, so yes I'd expect opticians to understand your request!

or optician - varifocals ? not cheap but work really well

sashh · 03/04/2021 06:20

Yes you need a third pair and your employer is legally obliges to pay for the test and the glasses.

My dh has a third pair for reading music on his music stand.... only downside(or perhaps a positive!) is the conductor is a little blurry.

Hiya,I used to work in an opticians and it was quite common for people to come in for glasses for computer use.
Quite often your company will pay or contribute towards them if you only need them for work so might be worth looking into.
Have you thought about varifocals? These are improving all the time so may be another option for you if you didn't want to keep swaaping between 3 different pairs of single vision glasses.
Hope this helps.

Unfortunately this isn't the case.

@schroeder

Sorry I may have read the OP wrong, but if the computer is one at work then yes it is true.

Yes. I know about the legislation, in reality though someone who already wears glasses cannot usually claim for the price of the glasses- just the test.

TaraR2020 · 03/04/2021 15:18

If needed for work computer use then your employers contribute towards the cost.

I've got "office glasses" which are basically varifocals but just for intermediate and near distance. I can use them for computer, watching TV and using iPad at the same time, reading etc.
They've got bigger "windows" than the usual varifocals that have 3 zones to do far distance as well.

DramaAlpaca · 03/04/2021 16:55

I have varifocals for reading and computer work, but with no distance vision in them. They are perfect at work because I can see both the screen and papers on my desk clearly.

Then I have my everyday varifocals which are for reading and distance.

The varifocal element means I need two pairs rather than three.
