Anyone always covered in bruises?

I am, mostly quite small and on upper and lower legs and sometimes arms and often half a dozen at any one time. Very rarely remember how I got them and am pale-skinned and getting on a bit (late 50s). I’ve always bruised easily (as does my mum) but now seem to be getting more of them and am also on anti-depressants which I know can be a side-effect. Had blood tests a few months ago which were fine but my dad had blood cancer so am a bit paranoid. Will be in trousers this summer because my legs look like ripe bananas!

Always and no idea where most come from. I even bruised when they took my blood pressure. I can get a bruise on my arm from my other arm holding it overnightShock. like you I had blood tests (grandmother died of a form of anemia) but all came back normal. Apparently it’s just because I’m pale and bruise easily.

Yep always. I'm in my 30s and equally quite pale skinned. In my youth I put it down to my drunken adventures but now I've just accepted I'm accident prone and bruise easily

HerLadySheep · 02/04/2021 07:23

Yep, I'm very clumsy and bruise like a peach!

HildegardeCrowe · 02/04/2021 07:24

That’s reassuring @pinkcattydude!

This thread has made me remember I used to be the same! But not anymore bizarrely...

If I were you I would discuss with the GP as this could be something, but it is very likely to be nothing. So I wouldn't totally ignore but neither would I be worried unduly.

I am and I have severe kidney problems. I’m sure your blood tests will have covered that though however my doctor failed to tick this box in my first bloods so it went undetected for a while. Sure that is very rare but make sure they have checked kidney function.

I’m covered in bruises & never know how I’ve done it. But am on blood thinners so I know why.

hamstersarse · 02/04/2021 07:43

I think a lack of vitamin k can also be attributed to frequent easy bruising

I agree, flag it up with your GP. My OH bruised easily often not knowing why and it turned out he did have a problem with his blood. It was something that routine blood tests didn't pick up, so the GP had to order a special test which flagged up the reason. He was early 50's when diagnosed, but had been prone to bruises for several years before then.

I'm 43 and this is currently the state of my legs. I've had blood tests and everything is normal. I think I am just a really forgetful clumsy person as I don't recall doing anything to get them!

I’m the same. I’m 31 and had loads and loads of blood tests. Always all normal. A doctor once told me to up my vitamin c and come back in 3 weeks if no better. They did actually get a lot better. I would however go see your GP. No harm in them investigating further, especially because of your dad. It would also put your mind at rest. X

HildegardeCrowe · 02/04/2021 07:52

Oh my word @always2ndbest, I hope they don’t hurt! Have discussed with the GP (have rampaging health anxiety) and been told there’s no need to repeat the bloods I had done last December. Should only go back if I have other symptoms (fatigue, bleeding gums etc). Hope your OH is ok now @Kazzyhoward.

Those of you with bruises on legs, Google lipoedema / lipedema (American spelling) - it’s a generic disease where fat on the legs is stored in a way that means the body no longer recognises what it is, it cannot be burned off through exercise or diet and it causes excessive bruising and sometimes pain. I was diagnosed because of bruises.

Gensola · 02/04/2021 08:05

Genetic Confused
Also, I have stage one lipoedema so my legs only look “a bit fat” in comparison to the rest of my body, not as dramatic as some of the pics on line!
