No of course you don't need to see a doctor for that. What on earth do you think they could do? Just trim it as best you can so it's not catching on your socks and leave it alone.

TheBookworm88 · 28/03/2021 13:02

I've had this before (very recently actually). I just left it alone as best I could and eventually the little bit sticking out fell off by itself. Prior to that it was a bit sore, especially when catching on socks etc. You don't need to see a doctor about but really do try not to mess with it too much, although I know that's easier said than done sometimes.

CallmeHendricks · 28/03/2021 13:08

Stick a plaster onto it, to stop it catching on socks/shoes and wait for it to grow out.

Findahouse21 · 28/03/2021 13:10

Wtf? Why would you go to a doctor?

PandaFluff · 28/03/2021 13:11

Only if it doesn't grow out properly and gets infected or something.

vodkaredbullgirl · 28/03/2021 13:14

Just cut it fgs

By the looks of it, it is possible that you have damaged the nail bed and the nail may continue growing but keep cracking. I’ve done this to one of my toenails and I use nail glue and a small piece of (unused) teabag to mend the crack and stop the nail from catching on my socks.

The nail has grown out eventually but keeps cracking if I don’t use the teabag to give it some rigidity. I’ve never been to the doctor about it.

FoonySpucker · 28/03/2021 13:26

Are you taking the piss?

eurochick · 28/03/2021 13:28

Are you seriously asking if you should see a dr for a broken nail🤦🏼‍♀️

mn81987 · 28/03/2021 13:29

You're clearly not a runner 🤣🤣. I've had to perform several toenail surgeries on myself.
Of course you don't need to see a bloody dr.

snowman212 · 28/03/2021 13:33

Thanks all for your replies. @Hairsonyourchest I don't quite get how you use the tea bag in this case

Foot specialist here, do not glue , just trim off gently and file wait to grow back.

dcb2 · 28/03/2021 13:44

I split the nail horizontally on my big toe just before I was due to go on holiday. I was worried it would either split off or get infected as I was planning on doing a lot of walking in flip flops. I bought a silk nail strip product on Amazon along with nail glue. It worked an absolute miracle, held the split together and stayed on for several months. Yours is a different type of split to mine, but if you could gently bring the split together, you might be able to apply the strip.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 28/03/2021 13:47

If you’re worried book to see a local podiatrist.

If it were my nail I’d trim it off, slap a bit of antiseptic cream on it and hope for the best!

Hairsonyourchest · 28/03/2021 15:39

Snowman: I cut a tiny piece of the bonded edge of a tea bag (slightly smaller than my toenail) and embed it in the nail glue and then put nail varnish over the top when it's dry. It's a bit like the silk nail repair stuff I imagine. I'm not a foot professional and have far more of a clean break in the middle of my toenail than you appear to have, however, I damaged mine about 6 years ago, kept it very closely trimmed and filed (before I found this solution from googling) and it simply would not mend. I don't want to alarm you but the photo is reminiscent of what I did to my toe.

Thanks all for the tips 🙏
